Focus on Greens
[edit]Is the Green Party really a large part of the pro-death penalty effort, or is it just mentioned because it's surprising that a generally left-wing organization is joining in support? The page says that 70% of Mexicans support it, and the links seem to indicate that politicians in other parties are making public statements in support of the death penalty. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 03:04, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- From what I can tell, this party is leading the charge on the political front, as I haven't seen any movement from the larger parties. \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 03:11, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, that sounds good. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 03:18, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit]The next priority is finding good sources for pre-Drug War situations. Having some context for that image would be ideal. \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 03:39, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
I've read several times this wrong information all around the web for many years. The last civil execution in Mexico was in 1957, not in 1937. It was a double execution in Sonora (northern Mexican state). The prisoners were Francisco Ruiz Corrales y Rosario Donjuan Zamarripa. They raped and killed a 9 year old girl and a 3 months old baby girl. It was a legal (a judge sentenced these men to die by Firing Squad) execution.
The exact date of the execution: June 17th, 1957. The exact place of the execution: Sonora State's prison.
According to the Sonara State'laws, if a prisoner had been waiting for his/her execution more than 5 years, the death sentence had to be changed to life in prision for 20 or 30 years.
The last execution, as it is said in the article, is correct: the execution of a soldier (an execution ordered by a Mexican army's judge). It was in Saltillo, Coahuila in 1961.
My reference is an article, written in an important Mexican newspaper:

It's in Spanish, though.

Extrajudicual executions
[edit]Although the last death penalty has been executed in 1961, the Mexican government has since then been accused of extrajudicial executions at more than one occasion. The most recent case is an execution on May 2nd of this year in La Realidad, Chiapas. I don't think any of these cases have ever been affirmed in a court room, but shouldn't the accusation of the extrajudicial continuation of the death penalty be included in this article? 187.143.84.163 (talk) 17:29, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
