Confusion
[edit]There is quite some confusion with respect to the names of the early range of Canon F-1 cameras since all carries the same markings. However, Canon promotional literature is consequent. Please note that the early ones are as follows:
1971: Canon F-1 - the original mechanical camera
1976: Canon F-1n - an improved version of the original F-1, recognisable by the plastic tipped advance lever, added film reminder holder on the back etc.
1981: Canon New F-1 - the new electronic camera, part of a new system with new finders and accessories. This is the full name used by Canon at the time of introduction. However, it soon became the Canon F-1N. Since the improved original camera is the Canon F-1n (1976), as shown above, the capitalisation has to be observed carefully. It is therefore incorrect to refer to it as the New Canon F-1 - THERE IS NO SUCH CAMERA.
