I can't believe it's Pot Butter. [This deep insight provided by ReverendG, 11:31 17-8-2006]

Quick Question

[edit]

So Cannabutter can't be heated too much or it loses its potency? I'm not saying that it's wrong (truthfully, I don't know) but as many people ingest Cannabis by smoking it (ie: setting it afire) it seems unlikely that heat would reduce its potency unless it means to say that too much heat vaporizes the active ingredients of the Cannabutter, in which case that really should be explicitly stated. Someone more knowledgeable that myself needs to look at this article.

Baking

[edit]

would cannabutter make one's kitchen smell 'incriminating' when baked into something like brownies?

ANSWER = YES!

I would like to adress the concerns of the above post. Once the tempurature of the herb goes above 150 C, it begins to destroy the active ingredients (not just THC). When applying fire, some of those ingredients are indeed lost, but because it is loaded with these chemicals, the user still gets the desired effects. The ability to keep the temp under 300 F insures maximum potency. Even if the temp exceeds 400 F, the user will still get stoned because not all of the chemicals have been incenerated. Furthermore, when smoking, some of the chemicals that would otherwise be released into the air are instead inhaled with the smoke. As with other resionous herbs, heat must be applied in order to activate the ingredients. Its a fine line between too much and too little.
