Enough is too much!

[edit]

Roughly every second or third month some random editor removes Notable Natives as "non notable". Established editors put it back and wham it's gone again. Issue 2 is the return of the "cruising reference". Cruising is OR and needs to stay off the page until someone can locate a proper source for it. (Ihat said, I love the updated photos)

Notable Natives has been re-added (this is the Winter 2009 edit that someone experienced restored from the last major chop) and Lifestyle has been removed as OR (entire section was on cruising). I have also requested semi-protect.

Any other major changes, to this page in general and to the above sections in particular, need to be proposed on this talk page for consensus before we wind up in 3RR/Edit War.

Forgive the rant, but this is getting on my nerves. VulpineLady (talk) 00:52, 11 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is not Facebook, not a resume site, and not a contest. If you want to publicly rant with emotion, that is not constructive. Why not stay with the context? What not understand that what's notable to you appears like nonsense to others. Instead, why not honor your notables on their own page and then backlink to Campbellsville, Kentucky. Maybe you could get your own Wiki or Wordpress and write about it. wiki1203 15:55, 26 January 2018 (UTC)Will Willp1203

Campbellsvillians of Note

[edit]

Bobby Himes had a reference that was removed as unsourced and under the premise that the party referenced (Himes) was not "well known" enough to bear inclusion. Himes was best known locally, but anyone that is eulogized by a Senator during open Senate Session in Washington, D.C. is probably important enough to be included in a wiki on his home town.

Given the additional notoriety of John "J.B." Holmes I felt that a section on "Campbellsvillians of Note" was in order and edited accordingly. Bobby and John are now both listed there and hopefully this will resolve any future "who the heck is that and where do we put them" issue.

What is notable to you is not relevant to the purpose of this page. This page is about the City (geography, demographics, economy, etc.) Given that there are thousands of people who are notable because of their contributions from Campbellsville, why do you think your notables are more important than other notables -- especially when comes to the context of City's Wiki page (such as former Mayors). Don't you find it odd that historians list themselves and other historians notables; thus diluting what it means to be notable? I would certainly accept "Abraham Lincoln" as a notable, too. I suggest you use Facebook and refer to your personal notables there; that would be the proper platform. wiki1203 16:07, 26 January 2018 (UTC)Will Willp1203

The above is mine too. Just FYI.

To clarify: this should be people who were born in Campbellsville (or Taylor Counnty) or who spent a substantial protion of their lives here AND have made some notable contribution or have notoriety. Huber wasn't born here but he did identify himself as local and his family has roots here. Doug Mosely only lived here a few years while his political career demaded it. He was not born here, he did not grow up here, he did not contribute substantially to the locality therefor he does not belong here and he has been removed. Allen is another that wasn't born here, but he did grow up here and school here and contribute locally so like Huber he can stay. Ratliff is debateable, but stays; going back to the 20's what was Green Co then could well be Taylor now since the lines got redone. We don't want this to get cluttered with every Kentuckian that passes through -- just the ones that start here or stay here. VulpineLady (talk) 03:54, 21 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Here we go again. Just got it put back from the last chop-edit and bang it gets chopped again. Granted there are quite a few notables who don't have their own page and, thus, raise debate on 'notability', but can we please stop with the impulsive deletions?

PROPOSAL: seperate Campbellsvillians of Note page with link on C'ville main page. That will allow for the relevant information without cluttering the main page. All editors to this page please weigh in.

note: "Campbellsvillian" is the proper term for a person identifying as Native of Campbellsville (irrespective of born here or transplant). VulpineLady (talk) 15:49, 14 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
