Talk:Camp Hyrule

I wrote up the new Awards section with the help of a Camp Hyrule expert. I also removed the Gannon-Banned section. It is completely unnecessary to have such a prominent article about Gannon-Banned, or even to mention it. It has almost nothing to do with Camp Hyrule as a whole, and is just vanity to get attention for the website it was linking to. In fact, the old section claimed the award was for the camper with the "worst grammar and spelling," when in fact the award was for the camper "Most Likely to Type in ALL CAPS!!" The real "Worst Speller" award was called the "Koopa Award." That just seems to be more proof that this section was added solely for vanity/advertising purposes. I don't see any need in this section being added for any reason to this article.
Also, I changed the category from "Legend of Zelda" to "Nintendo." Camp Hyrule may take its name from the "Legend of Zelda" series, but in reality the camp has very little to do with "The Legend of Zelda." Camp Hyrule covers the entire Nintendo universe, and is not limited in any respects to being just about "The Legend of Zelda."--BattleMario 09:58, 12 July 2005 (UTC)
- The section was put here because there were people who really wanted to see that section on Wikipedia and this was the most relevent article I could find (it used to be on The Legend of Zelda series, which was much worse). Not sure what'll happen now, but I guess nobody has noticed yet. Deco 20:00, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
- I understand that it may be important to some fans to have it up. However, I don't think the section needs to be put up in a mostly unrelated article for the sake of pleasing some fans :).--BattleMario 08:47, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
About the 2007 theme
[edit]Okay didn't NOA_ANDY state a million times his focus was to make CH more about the Zelda this year? Come on people get with the transcript!
- Unless there was something that was not covered in the transcript sample posted on the bottom of the page, I do not think he explicitly stated the camp would revolve around the LoZ series. Given the camp is actually called "Camp Hyrule", a direct reference to the LoZ series, then technically LoZ has always been a theme. The entire table needs to be re-worked - I'll try to nail it down. :p --ShadowJester07 ► Talk 02:11, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- As stated above Camp Hyrule is always somewhat Zelda themed (even the name comes from The Legend of Zelda). A few years back it was made specifically Zelda themed for Twilight Princess, but this year was nothing specially Zelda themed. Zomic_13 06:10, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
About the GANNON-BANNED Award
[edit]It was originally its own page. It was then moved to Zelda Series. Then to here. I'm adding it back in as a mention at least because it still is an award, but I'll leave out the info about the site and the creator. It seems the edit out was motivated by a bit of jealousy? Wonder what the creator would have to say about that if he found out who edited out. But don't worry, just leave in the small mention of the award, and whoever got the description wrong also needs to be hit on the head ;)
- It is just such an insignificant part of the overall Camp Hyrule experience, it doesn't make sense to have a comprehensive section about it. If there's an article where it does make sense to explain it in more detail, then that's fine. I just don't see the need in the section finding its home in this article.--BattleMario 08:47, 15 July 2005 (UTC)
It was moved to Camp Hyrule from The Legend of Zelda page. There was an article just for it, but it was locked and moved to Zelda series, then to here. The re-direct on it takes it here. The Wiki mod said put it back in. - TSA
Is there any reason at all to re-direct "GANNON-BANNED" to Camp Hyrule? It seems to me that the two are hardly related...
- It seems to me as if this whole "GANNON-BANNED" ordeal is nothing but a shameless self-promotion by someone who wants to be tied to the Zelda/Nintendo history. -DeeCee
- It's actually a shameless self-promotion by someone who wants the Zelda/Nintendo history tied to them. Close enough, though.
Time
[edit]Does anyone know what time Camp Hyrule opens? I've been waiting all morning! -Somebody
It opens 9am Pacific Time, which is 12 noon Eastern Time. Toomai Glittershine 15:10, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Older maps
[edit]At Camp Hyrule 3000 You can find both more information and more old maps. It's hard to navigate as it is poorly managed and the forum isn't active and full of spam. here is a direct link to one of the albums containing maps. - Stan64
- Thanks providing the link, but we already have an adequate number of photos for the article. --ShadowJester07 22:08, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
- But you don't have maps of '97 and '98 that can be found on that site here: http://groups.msn.com/CampHyrule3000/shynkzmapemporium.msnw Stan64 12:31, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- Partially because we don't want to clutter the past camp's section with a lot of images. --ShadowJester07 20:09, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Summary of past camps
[edit]- For one thing, Why is the Summary of past camps time-line in caterogized in a descending fashion; versus various other tables which feature content that is caterogized in acceding order. In other words, the tables content should be reordered starting with 1995, as opposed to 2006.
- Second, there seems to be heated debate regarding what the camp's true themes are. While the camp is definetally featuring Super Mario Galaxy, it is also advocating Star Fox Armada, Mario Basketball 3 on 3, and the DS Lite. I feel we can resolve these disputes by changing the table, so a section reads "Featured Content"; Thus allowing us to add the particular titles that were advertised. --ShadowJester07 01:44, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree. I was the one who added the "theme" column in the very first place (along with the rest of the table), and I must say that every camp has ONE SINGLE theme that dominates everything else. That's what the column is for. This year, it's Super Mario Galaxy. Sure, the Wii, Phantom Hourglass, Mystery Dungeon, etc. are also advertised, but the entire CAMPGROUND was inspired by SMG alone. Similarly, last year, the camp was inspired by Twilight Princess. And so forth. This should not be a matter of dispute at all. Wikipedian06 20:43, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Allrighty then; If your good with tables, how about fixing up the order ;) I have the Wikipedia Add-on for Firefox, but filling in the tables is rather tedious. :p --ShadowJester07 20:50, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

- Is there a Wikipedia guideline suggesting that information must be organised in chronologically ascending order? Wikipedian06 20:55, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not exactly sure, but all the sports tables I have encountered are in accending order by year. (See Chicago Bears seasons and Green Bay Packers statistics) --ShadowJester07 21:04, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Seriously, I don't see anything Super Mario Galaxy related in Camp Hyrule...
- All Camp Hyrule themes are centered around Nintendo Games. As you may or may not know, SMG is set in Space. The Camp's outer space setting is a reference to SMG. Similar to how last year's "Darker" Setting was a reference to LOZ:TP. --ShadowJester07 00:09, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, if you take a look at the Super Mario Galaxy vids from E3, you'll see planetoids that look just like the ones on the CH maps. Wikipedian06 00:21, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Canceled
[edit]- NOA_ANDY: That means that there will not be any community-based message boards or chat.
- NOA_ANDY: But, we will still have a new Camp Hyrule map, and it will contain Flash games, a special place for Stumpy (the Camp Hyrule mascot), and a Camp Hyrule Message Board where campers can post their memories about Camp Hyrule from over the years.
- NOA_ANDY: This Message Board won't be a community message board, but a place where individual messages can be posted.
- NOA_ANDY: There is no need to pre-register for Camp Hyrule.
NOA_ANDY: Starting August 13, you'll be able to visit www.CampHyrule.com for a chance to win a life-size Link statue.
- NOA_ANDY: Campers won't be divided into cabins as part of the sweepstakes, though.
- NOA_ANDY: All that will be required to enter the sweepstakes is a My Nintendo membership.
I replaced the lines about Camp Hyrule 2007 being canceled, since it's not entirely true. The map and flash games will still go live, so there will be a theme to mention in the Wiki.
- Yes. Camp Hyrule isn't exactly canceled - more like very downgraded (although to some there probably isn't much difference). As stated above there will still be a map and the flash games, as well as a single board for people to post their Camp Hyrule memories of years past. Some of the traditional Camp Hyrule message board games/contests will also still be held - just on the Nsider forums. And of course, this year's prize is one of the biggest yet (a life-size statue of Link!). For more information, you can read this chat transcript posted by NOA_Andy on the Nsider Forums. http://forums.nintendo.com/nintendo/board/message?board.id=np_po&message.id=21795518 - Zomic_13 (Sonic_13 on Nsider)
- Since ShadowJester07 is the one reverting my edits, I will explain to you why I am making them. Signups are not "canceled", since that implies that there is no event this year. "No signups required" is more accurate, since you are able to access the map with a My Nintendo account. The theme is "To be determined", not "non applicable", since Andy has already said there will be an interactive map.
- For right now, the table should stay as is (with the "no sign ups required" and "tbd"). There will be a new map, so a theme is extremely likely. Also, the Camp is not entirely canceled as I previously said, so it shouldn't say canceled. Zomic_13 04:59, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
- This is the exact reason why the NSider article was deleted. Bozos kept coming onto Wikipedia, and posting incorrect information - it's hard to tell whats fact and fiction. To make matters worse, there was no way to properly verify the information since Andy hardly speaks in serious tone (see the ch webpage); At least the transcript was straightforward. I apologize for the hastily reverts. For future reference, make sure no one goes astray from what Andy's message, unless they address it here. --ShadowJester07 ► Talk 05:47, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
