Fair use rationale for Image:CIELogo.png
Image:CIELogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:34, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

The result of the proposal was Undecided: casting vote add "University of" for reason stated below.Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:22, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Cambridge International Examinations → University of Cambridge International Examinations — I tried and failed to move this article to "University of Cambridge International Examinations" in order to match the format of other University of Cambridge pages, as linked from UCLES, for consistency.--James Chenery (talk) 05:08, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
e.g.
- University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate
- University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations
- University of Cambridge

I'm unconvinced. The article consistently uses CIE as the abbreviation. If this indicates the common usage, then it should stay at Cambridge International Examinations. The desire to be consistent is understandable, but Wikipedia policy is to use English as it currently exists, not to promote our own ideas as to how it should be improved. And English is not terribly consistent! Andrewa (talk) 15:03, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- The official logo (on this article) is "University of", their official materials have "University of", other sites and articles on wikipedia refer to them as "University of".
- In casual English conversation, "University of" is commonly dropped, but that implies it is known that a University is being discussed, and usually when both are familiar with the university in question, which naturally doesn't apply to an internet encyclopaedia, particularly for an article about an organisation which mostly handles sub-university level international examinations. The abbreviation is shorter, and this is far from uncommon.
- It also has the benefit of grouping the University of Cambridge related articles within alphabetically ordered lists.
- "Generally, article naming should prefer what the greatest number of English speakers would most easily recognize, with a reasonable minimum of ambiguity, while at the same time making linking to those articles easy and second nature."
- The first argument above seems to be an appeal to official names, and if so is irrelevant. The second, relating to other sites and articles, may be relevant... can you be specific?
- Disagree with almost all of the second paragraph, regarding English conversation. When people talk of Cambridge, in whatever context, quite often they mean the University rather than the town. The town is most notable because of the University.
- Grouping in lists is easily handled in other ways.
- The quote from WP:NC at the end is of course relevant, but IMO it doesn't support the proposed move. Andrewa (talk) 19:02, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
- What's most relevant is which is the more common name. One indicator is Google hits, which puts "University of Cambridge International Examinations" at 37,000, and "Cambridge International Examinations" -"University of Cambridge International Examinations" also at 37,000. This, in addition to a browsing of the results for just "Cambridge International Examinations", indicates to me that they're both about as equally common. If that's the case, then I don't see a need to move, as per Wikipedia:Naming conventions#Controversial names. -kotra (talk) 22:31, 3 July 2009 (UTC)

Date of formation
It seems to me that the reference for the date of formation[1] is saying that Cambridge Assessments was formed in 1858. However, Cambridge International Examinations appears to have formed in 1998. I quote, "[In 1998]... led UCLES to a restructure into three distinct examination boards: Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR), Cambridge International Examinations and Cambridge ESOL". This appears to be an ambiguous feature of the Infobox, though it is clear in the prose.
We now have Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR) giving a 1998 formation. University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations (ESOL) says 1913. This article goes all the way back to 1858, not even 1857. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:46, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
