Deletion
[edit]This seems like more of a dictionary article, might it be better to either mention a calm on the beaufort scale or simply delete it?63.197.134.209 23:31, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
And it doesn't really cover the emotional state of 'calm' either. - 222.154.238.36 (talk) 23:17, 28 April 2008 (UTC) to be very stressed
The L disappears in English pronunciation?
[edit]The article says:
"The insertion of the L, which in English pronunciation disappears, is probably due to the Latin calor, heat, with which the word was associated."
That's not how I pronounce "calm". I pronounce it as it is spelled, with the L. I've never met anyone who says it like "com" or "cam" as I assume it would be pronounced without the L. Gary (talk) 21:32, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
That's not how I pronounce "calm" either. I am familiar with the dropping of the L in some dialects, but as a native speaker in my opinion most standard North American dialects include the L, even if only subtly. Majohnson 669 (talk) 19:22, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
