BLP1E

[edit]

In spades. Even if it is "entertaining" it impacts a living person, and is imo not encyclopedia material. Cheers - just in case anyone puts it up for AfD. Collect (talk) 14:54, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

That's what I thought at first, too, Collect. I'd say it's just another dismissed criminal case, except that it seems the Swedes have taken it as emblematic of how Swedes vacationing in Greece are mistreated by the Greek legal system, and that as such it's cast an enduring pall over the relationship between the two countries. It's also notable with respect to the development of the European Arrest Warrant. So, I do think it's worthy of inclusion, and I expect it to withstand an AfD readily on WP:GNG grounds as well as WP:EVENT and possibly WP:CRIME. I'm quite receptive to renaming the article per BLP1E, though I'm not sure what it should be named. (I admit being tempted to invoke IAR and say the current name is as good as any.) // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 15:43, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps just put a truncated version (dealing with the trials and not the person accused) in the EAW article then - but not as a BLP on a single person per se. Reasonable? Collect (talk) 15:51, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on the fence. What I'd really like to see is some input from a Swedish editor, who would be better able to read the native-language sources and help judge local notability. Working through Google Translate is always difficult, but I'm getting the feeling that the case may, and I emphasize may, be analogous to most Americans' view of Rodney King. A Google search turned up a lot of instances of Jonsson's name being used in that manner on chat boards, etc.; those weren't WP:RSes for article purposes, but they swayed me regarding the notability factor. I definitely don't want to besmirch Jonsson's reputation any more than it has been already... but if it is perceived there as a rallying cry, I would not want to unnecessarily minimize the incident, on the principle that something good should come of his ordeal. I'll try posting to WikiProject Sweden and see if we can get some extra opinions. // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 16:03, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
