Fatalities

Should the article include a list of fatalities on this highway?

Forty-six people died in crashes on that stretch from Jan. 1, 1998, through March 31, 2008, said Charles Gray, a senior transportation engineer with the San Diego District of the California Department of Transportation.

The number of fatal crashes is slightly above the state's average for roadways of similar size and length, Gray said. The number of fatalities jumped in both 2005 and 2006, greater than any of the previous years, the engineer noted.

Gray said he could not compare the safety of two-lane roads to other types of roads, like interstates or parkways, because there are too many variables that affect safety on each type.
