Advert and COI
I think the advertorial tone of the article is obvious and underline by the formatting that doesn't following the WP:MOS. Also, Sweiman who wrote most of this article, is presumably Shannon Weiman, an employee of QB3. Fraz.phillips may also have a connection but it's less clear if there's a COI or just some advocacy going on.
The article isn't unsalvageable but is really going to need some work. WCS100 (talk) 01:17, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Response to Advert/COI
Hello. This is Kaspar Mossman, currently director of communications and marketing at QB3. I am responsible most of the content for this page. Shannon Weiman, who was temporarily a QB3 intern, made some edits under my supervision. (Fraz.phillips was also an intern.)
This page is intended to be informational and we have striven to maintain a neutral point of view. Characterizing it as an ad is a bit of an exaggeration. Perhaps bias is evident but that's the page needs more diverse input. Certainly we wish more people would visit the page and edit it. It would make it more lively.
If there's any styling that is not to code, it's because we are not fulltime Wikipedia editors and are doing the best we can as enthusiastic amateurs. Please, go ahead and make the page better!
Re: Name change
Sorry about undoing your edit. Not an act of spite; I couldn't figure out a way to respond otherwise to your question of whether there was any evidence the long form of the name was not being used. My two major pieces of evidence are 1) the institute's website http://qb3.org, which uses only the short form "QB3", and 2) the website of the institute's parent organization, the University of California Office of the President, http://www.ucop.edu/california-institutes/, which primarily lists the short form followed by the longer. As you can see above, I am the institute's spokesman and best placed to know what our name actually is. I do understand that this may differ from the official Wikipedia naming convention. When I originally created this page, I wasn't sure which version of the name to use for the main page and which for the redirect, so I chose the current arrangement. In the years elapsed since then, the institute has overwhelmingly favored "QB3" instead of "California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences." I have a request in to swap the article title with the redirect, but the request is pending approval. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scerevisiae (talk • contribs) 17:30, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
