Plot
[edit]I removed a reference from the Plot section. Plot sections should not need references, the film itself is the source. The reference was only to a page containing quotes from the film, including a joke about the ethnic background of a character. (The plot section doesn't even do a good job of elaborating the underlying racism and snobbery which is presumably the reason the characters ethnicity was highlighted.) -- 109.78.193.37 (talk) 14:05, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
Reference wrecked
[edit]Someone screwed up the reference to the AV Club interview with Harold Ramis. Diff[1] The replaced the link to the AV Club website with a link to Latimes.com for someone unknown reason. The website named in the reference and the target URL clearly do not match but no one reverted or challenged the edit and it is too late to cleanly revert it now, it is a pity it took this long for anyone to notice. I'm going to restore the original link to the AV club interview now. -- 109.76.130.202 (talk) 04:31, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
Terrible quality writing in the Plot section
[edit]- "Though Kate is embarrassed by her father's actions, she is still loyal to him, as evidenced when she commiserates to Miffy"
- "Eager to improve her lot in life, she makes friends with Miffy Young (Chynna Phillips), a snooty WASP girl"
These are two examples of the terrible quality writing in the Plot section that have continually been returned to the current version. The rest of the text appears to me to offer no better understanding of the plot of this film than the shorter version does, and only serves to bulk up the section with unnecessary prose. - And you couldn't possibly have improved the prose while still also following the WP:FILMPLOT guidelines that recommend keeping the plot section between 400-700 words? The prose was poor but an excessively short Plot section is also suboptimal. I have tagged the section as needing {{More plot}} instead. -- 109.78.203.135 (talk) 17:48, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- FILMPLOT is a guideline but there's no mandatory minimum word count and we should use common sense where appropriate. I think the current text provides readers with a sufficient understanding of the plot. If someone feels additional detail is missing they're free to add it. I don't have a problem with the template you've added. EnPassant♟♙ (talk) 19:01, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- It may not be mandatory but the guideline very clearly does recommend a minimum. If any editor feels the plot section would benefit from more detail they can certainly add it. Not planning on rewatching the film anytime soon but I might get around to it eventually. -- 109.78.203.135 (talk) 19:39, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- I tried watching a couple Youtube clips to get more to fill out the plot and that was as much as I could handle. It's really terrible. EnPassant♟♙ (talk) 21:14, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
