Creator of mambo

He should be credited with this in the article, at the moment it just says he brought popularity to the music, when in fact he actually invented it http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7310233.stm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.251.229.70 (talk) 18:09, 23 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cachao LópezCachao – Per WP:COMMONNAME, Cachao is the name used in all his albums, films, and bibliographical entries including AllMusic, Notable Caribbeans and Caribbean Americans: A Biographical Dictionary, The Rough Guide on Cuban Music, The Díaz Ayala Encyclopedic Discography of Cuban Music, Broughton's World Music Encyclopedia, and every single source I could find. "Cachao López" is an usual way of abbreviating Israel "Cachao" López; I haven's seen it outside this Wikipedia article. --Relisted. • Oppose - According to Bing News and Google Books, the current name is fairly often used per WP:NCP#Single name. Either keep as is or move to Israel "Cachao" López. George Ho (talk) 01:42, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • the current name is fairly often used (?) I'm sorry but I have not found a single instance of the name "Cachao López" being used anywhere but the title of this Wikipedia article. Israel "Cachao" López is indeed common, but his albums and most encyclopedic entries (check Google Books, your own link), refer to him as Cachao, which is much more common (did you actually read my comment, check the sources and take a look at his extensive discography?) and correct (it is his artistic name, there is no other Cachao). Honestly, there is no sensible reason to oppose this move. See WP:STAGENAME: The name used most often to refer to a person in reliable sources is generally the one that should be used as the article title, even if it is not their "real" name. —Neodop (talk) 02:58, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - when I clicked the Google books search link above, it validated the nominator's claim the he is overwhelmingly known by the single name. Virtually none of the matches shown said "Cachao López".  — Amakuru (talk) 21:09, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nominator and the sources provided. Erick (talk) 19:58, 31 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
