Actual body found while filming
[edit]I don't know what is considered a credible source here at wiki, but while filming an actual "near mumified" body was found.

I googled it and found more sites that have reported on it. I can't be certain wether it is actually true or not, but if it is, it would make for a good bit of trivia. The Real Stucco 04:39, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Main Characters
[edit]For ease of reading, the Main Characters section should be moved around so that the name of the character is first. As it stands, it's not as easy as it could be to look up a certain person as you've got to read different lengths across each line to find the person's name. CrashCart9 04:33, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

Main Characters (Mac)
[edit]In the episode "Charge of This Post" Mac's USMC ID is briefly shown, and states his rank was (at one time) lieutenant, so I added that information.
- Has Mac Taylor not always been Lieutenant in the NYPD. Noticed on main page that he is Detective for series 1-5 and Sgt. for 6? This has only recently been changed. Bthebest (talk) 18:03, 13 April 2010 (UTC)

Renewal
[edit]Is there any news of this show being renewed for a fourth season? All the csi articles are fairly unspecific on the future of the shows.

Cleanup of article
[edit]I would like to propose a major cleanup of this page as it is beginning to get cluttered and messy. The first thing I want to do is condense the cast list. What the article for the original CSI has done, and quite successfully, is to only list on the main page those characters who have appeared in the opening credits of the show, past or present. Any recurring characters are listed on a seperate page which is linked from the cast section. Any comments/suggestions/objections? -- Redfarmer 19:27, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I agree with this proposal. The original CSI page is much easier to read and to navigate. Shawn W 02:39, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- I've began some major cleanup to this article, added new production sections, and am cleaning up the character sections. As a general rule, only those who are/have been listed in the opening credits should be listed on the main page. Others should be listed on Minor characters in CSI: NY. -- Redfarmer 23:24, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
OK, for the record, here's what I did today. I would love some feedback as I do not like the prospect of doing all of this by myself:
- Cleaned up character sections by deleting enormously long and cumbersome titles, making it easier to navigate, and moving recurring characters to Minor characters in CSI: NY article.
- Taken out cumbersome information in the opening two paragraphs of the article and moved to sections of their own.
- Added production section with information on filming locations, music, and crew. This should be pretty solid for now unless someone wants to expand with more information. I did not expand because I could find no more sources.
- Added information on CSI franchise (novels, comic books, video game).
- Added crossover section for crossovers between CSI: NY and both CSI: Miami and Cold Case. I don't see how this can be expanded without becoming an episode synopsis.
- Cleaned up "See Also" section.
- Deleted Trivia section per Wikipedia policy on trivia.
I think I'm done for the day. I'm getting tired I can see since I'm beginning to forget to sign comments lol. -- Redfarmer 00:20, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
Trivia

[edit]After a related character discussion, I added some sourcing to the introduction and filming (also added episode specific re: Chicago). These weren't any substantial changes. Looking for help writing an article about the spin-offs and crossovers of this series
[edit]I am writing an article about all of the series which are in the same shared reality as this one through spin-offs and crossovers. I could use a little help expanding the article since it is currently extremely dense and a bit jumbled with some sentence structures being extremely repetitive. I would like to be able to put this article into article space soon. Any and all help in writing the article would be appreciated, even a comment or two on the talk page would help. Please give it a read through, also please do not comment here since I do not have all of the series on my watch list. - LA @ 16:29, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Note re: Ferlito character, "main" character list, and how we treat these issues on Wikipedia
[edit]Hello... FYI, this is in respect to the constant move by newer editors (especially IPs) to remove certain characters rom the "main character" list. Apologies for not posting this sooner, as it has been particularly problematic on this page. What we need to remember is that Wikipedia does not treat fictional topics in an "in the moment" manner. We write about them in a sort of permanent present tense, given that viewers could be experiencing any particular part of the story at a given time. This is also in line with our goal to produce an encyclopedic, "out-of-universe" treatment of the work, rather than a more fan-oriented "in-universe" presentation. That is why we do not rewrite first-season events into the past tense when the second season begins, and why we list all main characters based on the entire run of the series. This is not affected by deaths or departures; those events are certainly noted (no spoilers after all) but they do not lead to removal or movement to "former" categories. This is one of a series of related errors that commonly arise with the departure of cast members or the completion of a series; another is the tendency for newer editors to change "X is a series" to "X was a series" after a series is cancelled, despite the fact that the series still exists as a creative work. Yet another issue arises when editors list cast members as "main" cast based on personal feelings about their importance, or on perceived screen time, rather than based on the official status as determined by the studio and producers. If you like, I would be happy to provide more information on this to help explain why the deletion of cast members is contrary to accepted practise. Please let me know. Thanks in advance. --Ckatzchatspy 17:17, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
- I have requested direction as to where to find the information on not removing former characters, as I cannot locate it in the Television Project sections. I only have seen "this is how we treat" it, and other opinions disagreeing with no citation of either in Wikipedia. Please direct me so I can be a good editor. Thank you very much. - Also, something I thought of. Wouldn't infobox cast lists become very unwieldy in cases such as the Law and Order series (orig. & SVU) with the number of cast members that have been on these series? That is another reason why I want to know the official rules on this. Trista 24.176.191.234 (talk) 18:19, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
Why dedication to Baba O`Riley
[edit]90.207.93.15 (talk) 00:22, 15 November 2009 (UTC)I know the theme tune to the series is a short burst of Baba O`Riley by Pete Townshend but why is there a dedication after the credits to Baba O`Riley?
Lindsay's last name
[edit]Instead of changing it to Messer everywhere as has been done since before Lindsay & Danny were even married - can we wait and see if she is really going to use it? So far, all I have seen is her answering the phone when she KNEW it was Danny and calling herself Lindsay Messer. Nobody else has called her Messer, and she has not introduced herself as Messer. I just want the CSI:NY article to be correct, and just not a fan page for a couple of secondary characters....the descriptions of Danny and Lindsay and their baby are getting way out of hand now. Trista (cannot log in at work) 24.176.191.234 (talk) 07:30, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
- I'm bumping this because of something I had noticed about Lindsay's last name: I was just watching the recent season premiere on a local TV station and when (spoiler) she receives the medal (endspoiler), they mention Lindsay's name as "Lindsay Monroe-Messer which basically confirms user's 24.176.191.234 idea about waiting for a real use of the last name Messer. What should we as Wikipedians do about this, basically, comfirmed piece of news? Haseo9999 (talk) 01:56, 25 September 2010 (UTC)
Moving main character elongated synopsis
[edit]Hi all
I have moved the extended summaries to the List of CSI: NY characters and left brief summaries here prior to copy editing them
There is no need to have such long character synopsis as the links in the table take you straight to the main characters individual pages
There is a definite need for expansion of the plot section though - such things as underlying plot stories that run over several episodes or series (Casey etc)
thanks

The BP "disaster" hadn't yet occured...
[edit]In the 'Main Characters' section relating to Stella Bonasera, the reason she went to New Orleans is because "it's the city of Katrina, the city of BP oil, the city where people are looking for a helping hand."
According to whom? Melina Kanakaredes didn't know she wouldn't be renewing her contract at the end of the second season, which is why she wasn't written out of the show in the season finale. Since this is the case, it's impossible for her character to have given ANY reason why she was leaving, so I'm wondering how it was put into the article. Despite all of this, there is no way she would have mentioned the the BP oil "disaster" as that happend well after her decision to leave the show. So unless her character was also clairvoyent, she couldn't have known about something that HAD NOT YET HAPPENED. Sorry but Stella's character says nothing of the sort - last season nor in this season's premier, as I just now finished watching it.
Because of this, I removed the reasoning as to her leaving New York. Mykl6381 (talk) 05:49, 25 September 2010 (UTC)

Season 8 Renewal
[edit]I have undone an edit by an unregistered user that stated that it was unknown whether CBS would renew CSI: NY for season 8, due to "decreased viewership on Friday nights". This information was unsoucred/unreferenced, and after searching for several days, I found nothing to this effect on ANY sites, besides Wikipedia itself. We are only 5 episodes into season 7 as of this writing, and though viewership has dropped, it is still a respectable 9.946 on the Nielsen ratings.
If anyone can find any reliable sources for this information, they are welcome to add it back in.

Is Sheldon Hawkes a detective?
[edit]I just re-watched episode 5.15 "The Party's Over" about the Deputy Mayor being killed by his son and Danny going out with the "Blue flu". When Sheldon is complaining about it to Lindsay she says, "Hawkes, you transferred over from the M.E.'s office, which means you're not sworn NYPD, so there was no decision for you to make."
This sounds like Hawkes is not a detective on the show. I realize that in reality New York City CSIs are detectives but CSI: NY doesn't always follow reality. For Wikipedia purposes, Hawkes is shown as a detective on various pages, CSI: NY, List of CSI: NY characters, Sheldon Hawkes, and CSI: Trilogy. Should these pages be changed to remove the "Detective" title from his name and "Detective Third Grade" from his rank? 76.254.23.207 (talk) 01:52, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

- Concerning the pictures, the first two show Hawkes with a badge, but we already know he has one. The third picture shows a real NYC CSI badge with "Detective" on it, but we already know that real NYC CSIs are detectives. The question is whether Hawkes in fictional CSI: NY is. He would have had to get some kind of police academy training. Does he carry a gun? Has he ever referred to himself or been addressed as Detective Hawkes? I can't remember. I'm not saying he's not a detective, just that it's unclear. Box99Tube (talk) 23:52, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

- Well, the gun Hawkes had near the end of "Snow Day" he took from a terrorist in the morgue, so that doesn't count. I can't remember if he carries one normally. He might. And I don't know if carrying the gun makes him a detective.

What is an 'Indirect Spin-off'?
[edit]We call CSI: NY the only 'indirect spin off' of the original series. What do we mean by the expression 'indirect spin-off' in this context and how is it different from 'direct spin-off'? Just a query. — Preceding unsigned comment added by HemRaj Singh (talk • contribs) 23:10, 14 March 2017 (UTC)
- CSI: NY was the only series whose backdoor pilot, "MIA/NYC NonStop", was on CSI: Miami. The other two spin-offs (CSI: Miami and CSI: Cyber) had their backdoor pilots, "Cross Jurisdictions" and "Kitty", on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. So CSI: NY was an "indirect spin-off" of the original series and CSI: Miami and CSI: Cyber were "direct spin-offs". Box99Tube (talk) 00:10, 15 March 2017 (UTC)
