Dispatch v. Despatch

[edit]

As made clear in the text linked here, as well as all other texts I have seen, the proper name is Butterfield Overland Despatch. I intend to correct this in a couple of days, but I first wanted to see if anyone had a good reason for using the name "Dispatch" here. Kgwo1972 04:09, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am moving a comment from the main page to the discussion page--it appears to be miscategorized. SandwichSandwich 01:37, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Butterfield Stage and Butterfield Overland Dispatch are related. Both go back to Benjamin Butterfield who arrived in Mass in 1635. Now neither one would admit in those days after all one Butterfield was from Utica, NY and the other David Butterfield was from Tennessee. These are pre-civil war days and neither would have liked to be associated.
