[edit]I take issue with the following sentence from the "Trivia" section:
- Butler Library was featured prominently in the film Ghostbusters and also Spider-Man (film).
Butler's exterior appears briefly in both of these films but I don't think it "was featured prominently" in either. There was a scene in Ghostbusters set inside a library, but it was neither set nor filmed in Butler. The only scenes in Spider-Man set at Columbia took place in a biology lab which the film suggests is inside Low Memorial Library, not Butler.
I haven't removed the sentence because other users may have persuasive reasons to keep it in place. I'll check back periodically to see if anyone has responded.4.232.225.61 21:49, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
I forgot to get back to this, but now that I have stumbled upon my prior note I see that no one has replied. I'll go ahead and make the change. (For the record, the library scene in Ghostbusters was set at the Main Branch of the New York Public Library and filmed inside the Los Angeles Central Library. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.99.72 (talk) 20:07, 11 December 2008 (UTC)
Please provide absolute proof of this information. Looking at a Columbia produced calendar of libraries, it says, again, that "Butler library has been featured in the films Ghostbusters and Spider-Man." Could be totally wrong, but I work in Butler and have been around the campus for a few years. What I've been told is that while the library in Ghostbusters was set at the NYPL, either the inside stacks shots (with the librarian ghost) are Butler OR the outside shot as Ray runs down the steps are Low Library. This could be wrong, haven't checked the movie. In Spider-Man, doesn't Dr. Connor (later to become the Lizard) confront Peter about missing class, and is that not Butler in the background? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.59.153.80 (talk) 18:39, 3 March 2009 (UTC)
- Butler was *visible* in both movies, but only briefly. That is a far cry from being featured. I believe the director's commentary on the Ghostbusters DVD says the interior stacks scene was filmed at UCLA; even if I'm mistaken about that, the stacks do not look anything like Butler's did when the movie was shot in 1983. The staircase Ray runs down is definitely the NYPL and not Low; that's clear in the scene, but even if it really was Low that would not support the claim that the movie features *Butler*. The scene you describe with Dr. Connor is actually from Spider-Man 2, and even there Butler serves only as a background and is not featured.
Proposed merge
[edit]I would say the present situation is preferable to having them merged. The RBML article now includes the content of the former Archives article.--Felix Folio Secundus (talk) 16:46, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Proposed image change
[edit]I am suggesting we replace the lede image with the one I have uploaded here (a slightly revised version of the image that, when originally added, was reverted). Clearly, the current image is blurry and not up to the necessary quality standards. JSquish (talk) 20:34, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, there's no "clearly" about it. However, this version of your image is superior to the previous version and better than the current image. If you put it in the article I won't object, but I suggest you crop out some of the sky, which is unnecessary. BMK (talk) 20:37, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for your willingness to work out a solution with me on this — I will recall for the future not to unilaterally replace main images on articles without first consulting the talk page for feedback. --JSquish (talk) 21:14, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
- Sounds good, and the image looks good in the article. Thanks. BMK (talk) 21:23, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
