I have deleted the sentance about Culford School from the introduction, as it was blatently the school trying to advertise itself. It is not a high profile school by any means.

Well, it is a high profile school in the area but it does not deserve to be linked to from this article necessarily. Budgiekiller 14:26, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

It is high profile in the area, but nationally, it is not high profile at all.

Chalk-Workings

I have removed mentions of the extensive tunnels under the centre and entrances to the same. For example Moyse's Hall has no entrance to any underground workings. The chalk-working are extensive but do not extend into the centre of the town. Georgian wine cellars (curved) can sometime be read as the start of a tunnel entrance. Edmund Patrick 08:44, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I have deleted the paragraph about the archaeology collection at Moyse's Hall. These collections have now moved to West Stow for Display. Edmund Patrick

** James Melton- Enomic genious comes from Bury St. Edmunds

removed, in the wrong chapter and who is James Melton- Enomic genious comes from Bury St. Edmunds --Edmund Patrick 15:59, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

schools

I edited this out as I felt it was not an encyclopedic entry but an opinion. They may well be good schools but this is not the place to state it. If anyone disagree lets please discuss. --Edmund Patrick 08:21, 3 August 2007 (UTC)

Colin Mayson

please excuse my ignorance but who is Colin Mayson and what did he do, otherwise I see no need for him to be listed. Thanks for the information. Edmund Patrick ( confer work) 11:08, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

17th Century witch trials

Wasn't Bury St Edmunds the location of famous witch trials in 1662? It would be great if someone local could make a contribution to the Wikipedia on this, as I have read about this in several places on the Web and books have been written on it. Any takers? -- PD 19:12, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

A very basic start here. Please add to and improve. Edmund Patrick ( confer work) 11:12, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Freedom of the Borough

I have removed the claim that this was given to the actor in Lovejoy. I am a councillor of the borough with a list of freemen from 1907. Ian McShane is not included, and in any case the honour has always been given to local people.

Phone Code

A large number of websites contain an incorrect spelling duplicating an error present in Ofcom's (previously Oftel) UK area code list for the last decade. 01284 was listed as Bury-St-Edmunds in the official UK area code list and only recently corrected to Bury St Edmunds, see their Errata. 212.139.105.91 (talk) 08:35, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Name's pronunciation

Does this represent the correct pronunciation?

(/ˈbɛri sənt ˈɛdməndz/)

If so, you can copy and paste it into the article. Is there a characteristic local pronunciation as well as a "standard" one? I'm not from Bury St Edmunds; so I wouldn't know the exact pronunciation. Kelisi (talk) 04:09, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Looks about right: [1]. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:57, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

The Bury St. Edmunds Cross?

There is a carved crucifix at the Cloisters/Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, called the Bury St. Edmunds Cross. If it is associated with this town, should a separate section be created here?Catherinejarvis (talk) 18:37, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

see Cloisters Cross and yes go ahead and put a link in. Edmund Patrick confer 11:02, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Probably doesn't need a whole section to itself, but it seems like a notable thing that is well worth including in the article. Ilikeeatingwaffles (talk) 21:44, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Have added a link in a new '"See also" section. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:10, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Climate data?

I note that the first source gives data for Great Cornard and the second source gives data for Honington. Is this appropriate? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:54, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Following this, I have updated the data to Met Office 1981-2010 averages, all in one source 151.231.171.205 (talk) 16:21, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
I think you are a sockpuppet of the indefinitely blocked user Weathereditor. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:55, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
And what proof do you have of this? I have no idea who Weathreditor is? 151.231.171.205 (talk) 18:50, 18 July 2015 (UTC)
I have no proof. But your modus operandi and pattern of edits suggest you are yet another one of these. None of them liked to use indents, either. Let's hope I'm mistaken, eh? Martinevans123 (talk) 18:58, 18 July 2015 (UTC)

Government, info box details and population?

It would improve this article if there was a section detailing the government of the town. Apparently there is a town council. One paragraph in the "Modern History" section gives some information about the town council, but little else.

It would also improve the article if details about the town area and population was included, especially in the info box.--TGC55 (talk) 17:27, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
