classicism and neoclassicism
[edit]The lead claims that Civitico is "a major player in the development of Classicism". This unlikely. The major player in the development of Classicism is Leon Battista Alberti, who died 470 years BEFORE Civitico was born. The lead then claims that he is "Bruno Civitico of the Neoclassical Figurative revival movement", which is linked to Neoclassicism. This equally unlikely. Whatever the anonymous author writing for the bobartlettcenter is referring to is not Neoclassicism, which is exemplified by Jacques-Louis David, whose work predates Civitico's work by some 150 years. They're referring to a contemporary kind of representational painting, what Charles Jencks called "Allegorical Classical" and placed within the "New Classicism", which is a contemporary movement. But even then, he is not a "major player" or "one of the most important artists". These claims need to be attributed to give them the right context, or struck, which would be the right thing to do with an anonymous source like the Bartlett center.
