"NOR"
[edit]This edit adds some interesting information. The writer says in the edit summary: know this, because I was his editor there. The trouble is that anybody could claim this. The events described seem to have taken place half a century ago; things can get distorted in memory. Worse, we have no particular reason to believe that somebody claiming to be his editor there was actually his editor there: the whole claim could be a hoax. (My guess is that it isn't, but my guess isn't enough.)
"Original research" includes even scrupulously maintained diaries. Unless published, personal memories count for nothing in WP.
Rather unusually, I met two photographers the night before last. Perhaps neither is as eminent as Davidson, but both have articles here. I learned interesting nuggets from both. None of this will appear in the article on either, because you and other people have no reason to believe a word of what I'm saying. If by contrast I cite a certain book as I write something, I may still be lying -- but you can check this for yourself. -- Hoary 04:03, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Needs cleaning up
[edit]I agree that this entry could look more like an encyclopedia entry. That said, I do think the demands for citations are excessive and make the entry difficult to read. If the lack of citations bothers the reader that much, he or she ought to track them down or find a competent contributor to clean it up.
High School Award
[edit]Davidson (whose contributions to photography are amongst the greatest) is reported in 'The Glenville Torch' as having won his first major photography award, the 1952 Kodak National High School Photographic Award (not 'snapshot contest') at 19, not 16. I cannot find any record of him entering the award in 1949 (when he was sixteen). Exhibitions incomplete
[edit]Davidson's work has been so widely and so frequently exhibited, and in most of the significant venues showing photography, that the task of completing the lists of his solo and group shows in this article, and adding references for them, is dauntingly huge. Any assistance appreciated! Jamesmcardle(talk) 07:11, 27 December 2018 (UTC)
- Note WP:NOTEVERYTHING and WP:NOTDIRECTORY. An encyclopedia article need not have everything Davidson ever, especially if such information is trivial and/or of interest to only a small number of people. --Animalparty! (talk) 06:01, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
Beastie Boys cover
[edit]Would it be appropriate to add somewhere that the cover of the Beastie Boys' multi-platinum Ill Communication album is a Bruce Davidson photograph taken in 1964 ? PatConolly (talk) 06:54, 20 March 2021 (UTC)
