Skeleton
[edit]Just created a skeleton article. Before I could post this comment, somebody's already gone about improving it. Wonderful community. Thanks.--Asams10 06:35, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- Looks good. Could use a pic.
Merge proposal
[edit]I would like to propose that Remington Model 11 be merged into this article, as it is the exact same gun built under license by Remington Arms.--LWF (talk) 02:39, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- For: It's the same gun. The Savage 720 is also the same thing IIRC. And there's a Springfield clone, again if memory serves. --Asams10 (talk) 04:30, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Let's see if we can find them then. I do seem to be proposing a lot of merges lately.--LWF (talk) 05:15, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Merge completed. Sf46 (talk) 04:43, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Technical details
[edit]At the risk of making this an overly technical article, could someone please add some more model information? For example, I remember there being several different versions of the gun available in 16 gauge, made at various times. Also, does anybody know anything about choke tubes or a manufacturer choke barrel for this gun? I remember firing one with choke tubes in it, but I don't know if those were later added by a gunsmith or came with the weapon when it was purchased. Serial Number Data
[edit]Could somebody please publish serial number reference data? All I can find are barrel codes, which are of no help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.158.40 (talk) 09:55, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Which Browning?
[edit]The paragraph on Production begins very clearly with "John Browning", thereafter shortening the reference to "Browning". This becomes confusing when applied to events seeming to occur after his 1926 death. Could someone with the knowledge amend the references to "Browning Arms" or whatever is appropriate? Thanks. Users
[edit]Is it really appropriate to list Kurt Cobain among the "users" section? Seems a bit joke-y and in poor taste. Plus, the Kurt Cobain page makes no reference to the Auto 5. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:8382:A1D0:2082:59CA:33CB:CA8 (talk) 03:14, 10 December 2017 (UTC)
the German Empire use them
[edit]German Empire and later modified under name trench Mauser issued to mainly issuied stormtroops taken from Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal which mass produce them which they happen to also occupying during WWI after they found out it effectiveness in combat well informed stormtroops acting independent and on there own initiative. took or stole the guns and the ammo and blueprints from the factory and gave blueprints to Mauser with modifications became the trench Mauser.these stormtroops where awarded the iorn cross first class for there actions the head the order of port le.
Ludendorff protested combat shotguns beacuse he did not think of the idea of combat shotguns
[edit]Don,t forget during WWI he slowly but surely began losing his sanity by this time he had a lot of power within the german government and could protest the use and other people like hiddnburg and occasionally the kaiser and Erbrt could veto it which they did this case they even appligized and told what they did with them so in the end the order was not followed beacuse it was considered and insane order that was a joke at best. He was even mocked for this
Vandalism by Loafiewa
[edit]Attention to all. Deliberate repeated vandalism is committed by registered user Loafiewa (first and second without explaining) on the wiki-page Browning Auto-5. I am obliged to note that Loafiewa was asked a question ("hunters are users, please provide a link to the decision of En-Wiki members or administrators, according to which it is prohibited to indicate the legal status of weapons in countries") that Loafiewa did not answer. I consider it necessary to restore the information deleted by Loafiewa. Shadowcaster (talk) 08:50, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
- Firstly, I'd suggest you learn what vandalism is before accusing someone of it. I removed the information because, as stated in the given edit summaries, civilian hunters are not a military or police unit, they do not represent usage on a national level, which is why you do not see reference to their use by hunters specifically in the user section on Winchester Model 1897, Remington Model 870 M1 Carbine, Kar98k, and as far as I'm aware, any other firearm article on the website. When you say "without explaining", what you actually mean is "with an explanation I personally didn't approve of". And, that was done on the 5 October, over 3 weeks ago, and after doing it, you reverted, and I did not pursue the issue any further. What actually compelled you to post this here? Why are you hung up on an edit I made 3 weeks ago, that was reverted the day it was made? For what reason did you think making this comment was necessary? Loafiewa (talk) 10:14, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Licensed production by Savage Arms?
[edit]Added "no source cited" to the claim because of two main reasons:
1) A patent dated 1900 had long expired by the year of 1930. So Savage Arms didn't actually need to pay any royalties to make their own copy of the design
2) John M. Browning himself died in 1926. So he couldn't license the design in 1930. RussianTrooper (talk) 10:47, 7 June 2023 (UTC)
Military use?
[edit]The Auto-5 was primarily, at least, a shotgun designed for hunting use. I've not seen "Street Sweepers The Complete Book of Combat Shotguns" from Paladin Press as of yet, but the Osprey Publishing source is almost exclusively talking about the Remington M11 in the relevant passages, with an exception being regarding the Malayan Emergency on page 72, where it cites this article: https://web.archive.org/web/20160415070358/http://www.oldwardogs.com/2006/10/combat_shotguns.html in the claim that they were the 'preferred' (but not standard) weapon of RAF helicopter cockpit gunners, borrowed from the New Zealand Special Air Service.
Further documentation of any military usage, and of instances substantiating the specific claims above, are worthwhile. Zusty001 (talk) 02:26, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
