Comment
[edit]I wrote the oroginal page under the title "Bristol Urban Culture". Then some other wikipedians came along and redirected and merged it into the main "Culture of Bristol" page. I feel that there is enough of a distinction to preserve a seperate page, so I have moved it to the "Bristol underground scene" page as I noticed this term being used by the telegraph do describe Bristol. Now that artists like Banksy are getting widespread public attention, and Massive Attack are curating the South Bank I think attention is returning to this scene, and how it developed. I think there is a strong argument it is worthy of coverage, notworthy and important.--Confusedmiked (talk) 22:26, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Reliable sources
[edit]Indymedia, as far as I can tell, is an Internet self-published source, and therefore not reliable. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 01:02, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just checked... no, it can't be used as a source as it's user-edited and not commercially published. After a week, I'll remove any references to an indymedia site and flag any reversions as vandalism. Blackmetalbaz (talk) 01:06, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with Image:Collected.jpg
[edit]The image Image:Collected.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.
The following images also have this problem:

Blackboy hill and whiteladies road have NOTHING to do with slavery!!!!
Whiteladies road was called that due to house on that road with the same name! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.32.59.52 (talk) 17:20, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
Artistic use of darkness
[edit]this section is dire. I'd be inclined to say remove it completely? 195.137.110.134 (talk) 23:47, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
- Agree, and can hardly believe this section is still here and I will remove it now. I doubt that any culture or genre of music doesn't include some darkness.Arbalest Mike (talk) 18:12, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
I think its very crappy that someone said that Portishead has simple basslines. I don't know for sure about Massive Atack, but Portishead, no. I don't know what people want to see there, but I'm removing the word simple. 212.204.138.41 (talk) 19:53, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]I have cleaned up the citations and removed those to google and youtube which are not allowed on Wikipedia so some other sourcing and or rewrites will ahve to be found. Jezhotwells (talk) 13:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Rewrite
[edit]This entire article needs to be written.
It jumps backward and forward between Banksy and Massive Attack without much structure or attention span, contains almost no references and reads like some teenager's blog post. If I get time to chip in I'll do my part but can I urge some of you to help too?77.99.12.140 (talk) 09:55, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
- I did some clean-up and I think it is now closer to WP standards but I don't know for sure. It does need more work but I think some others ought to weigh-in, edit and comment before removing the re-write tag. Arbalest Mike (talk) 18:29, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
Bristol Sound
[edit]The paragraph with following line seems out of place with WP guidelines in spite of it having citations. Also, one of the citations is now dead. I am removing the paragraph but want to give a more detailed reason than the edit comment.
The song "Unfinished Sympathy" by Massive Attack, which has frequently been described as one of the best songs of all time
The statement "of all time" is the absurd part as this involves a rather narrow genre of music. Arbalest Mike (talk) 17:53, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
- The dead citation is on the Wayback Machine here. I agree the statement was too strong for Wikipedia. However, maybe saying the song 'has been highly rated by the music press' would be better than deleting the whole paragraph. Jonpatterns (talk) 20:20, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
Racial history
[edit]First paragraph needs to go. It references two "facts" about Bristol that aren't true and are already stated to be untrue. The black boy of the Blackboy Hill was Charles II (a reference to his hair colour) and the white ladies of Whiteladies Road were nuns and hence dressed in white (there was a convent on this road at one time). So why refer to this at all?92.233.169.89 (talk) 02:00, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
