citation to add

[edit]

In the Competition with Cameron section, I have a citation to provide, but I don't know the formula for adding them. It is the same source for my correction on the year the Kaibab Trail was constructed. It's as follows:

Anderson, Michael F., Living at the Edge: Explorers, Exploiters, and Settlers of the Grand Canyon Region, Grand Canyon Association, 1998, page 107.

Issues requiring attention

[edit]

I agree with User:Zencowboy27 that such a famous trail deserves attention.

I've only glanced at the article, but a couple things jumped out at me:

  1. The info box claims the trail length is 8.1 miles, the table in the main article says 9.3
  2. The info box lists trailheads as South Rim and Phantom Ranch. I think the 8.1 miles is roughly the distance to River Rest house, not Phantom ranch.
  3. The cite for the 9.3 mile length is not online. Online sources are not strictly required, but surely there is a n RS with this information. For example: this NPS document which supports 8.0 miles to River Rest House.
  4. The table supports an elevation change of 4212, but the text refers to 4380. Maybe the termini are different, but that should either be explained or fixed.
  5. The text says it is 2 miles from trail's end to the Campground, which differs from the NPS claim of 1,5 miles. Which is it?--SPhilbrick(Talk) 20:20, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

When to use "the"

[edit]

Unfortunately, the English language is inconsistent when it comes to use of "the" in front of proper names. For example, a recent edit was correct to remove "the" in front of "Grand Canyon Village". The same would be true of "Grand Canyon National Park". However, the opposite is true for "the Grand Canyon" and for "the South Rim" (which, by the way, has a different definition than the lower case term "the south rim"). Pretty ugly stuff, eh? I've made a couple of edits to reflect this. --Larry/Traveling_Man (talk) 18:16, 20 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
