Inclusion of recent killings
[edit]Lahaun has begun an edit war to retain this paragraph in the article's "History" section:
- On February 1, 2022, college police officer John Painter and safety officer J.J. Jefferson were shot and killed on campus. A suspect was later apprehended.[1][2]
Until there is additional information or lasting impact, this appears to be a textbook example of WP:NOTNEWS. This article must summarize the entire history, organization, resources, accomplishments, and challenges of a complex organization that is nearly 150 years old. We cannot include every event that makes the news, including tragic ones; we must remain focused on information that is critical for readers and has or is likely to have a lasting impact on the institution. - Please don't vandalize an article and then call it an edit war when your damage is repaired. The murder of these two officers was the subject of national news bulletins by both CNN and the NY Times and led NBC Evening News. I include a cite to the Times article as a reference. As I said, this is probably the biggest event that has ever happened at this school. This just happened and I or someone else will flesh out the item as new information becomes available. As always, the test should be is the Wiki article better with or without the information.Lahaun (talk) 00:34, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
- Don't accuse other editors of vandalism or misbehavior just because you disagree with their edits. The test is not whether "the Wiki article [is] better with or without the information." We have established policies and practices such as WP:NOT and WP:UNIGUIDE; please address them.
- Additionally, please review WP:BRD and WP:EW; you are not entitled to revert an article to your preferred version over the objections of other editors. This project operates on principles of collaboration and consensus. ElKevbo (talk) 00:52, 2 February 2022 (UTC)
