Why he coughs
[edit]-I think Brendan is coughing because he's had the shit beat out of him several times in a few days, not as an homage to someone who died of tuberculosis or whatever. -—The preceding unsigned comment was added by katefolsom (talk • contribs) 08:21, August 29, 2006.
Territorial releases
[edit]- I'm curious as to why my note about the film's limited release in other territories was removed. I think it deserves a place on the page somewhere - —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shaneo632 (talk • contribs) 21:05, June 13, 2006.
Twin Peaks homage
[edit]I'm surprised Twin Peaks has not been referenced her! I mean, dead high school girl, drugs, sinister underbelly of small town, main character's detective solving clues, clues revealed through dreams, visual references to the ceiling fan like on Laura's stairs, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leopheard (talk • contribs)
- We need proper references before something like that can go in the article. Vague coincidences between the two are not enough, but if for example there's an interview with Rian Johnson where he talks about Twin Peaks being an influence, then mention that, with a proper reference. — sjorford++ 18:13, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
You've got it bud! I'm on the case. Will come back with some more info for you. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Leopheard (talk • contribs).
I contend the all-positive attitude of this article. No mention of low production values, crappy acting etc.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bogorad (talk • contribs) 11:54, August 6, 2006.
- Maybe because it didn't have low production values or bad acting? Dancemotron 00:15, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
much different from twin peaks in my opinion. in twin peaks, the death and mystery around it of the girl is strong and central to the plot for the longest part of the story. the girl itself is not shown much. also, twin peaks is more deep into being 'moody' when brick is more into being 'mafia' as well. they can be compared, but not that similar.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.1.132.248 (talk • contribs) 20:39, August 14, 2006.
- btw, without a source mentioning a critique on a connection with twin peaks would be in violation with wikipedia policy as original research.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.1.132.248 (talk • contribs) 21:35, August 14, 2006.
Mr sjorford bloke - I believe I have found a good quote from Rian Johnson himself re: Twin Peaks (see edited page - after reading help pages I wasn't too sure how to properly cite a website sorry!). I understand he has his own website (www.rcjohnso.com) and he has dicussed TP with a few people and makes it clear that some elements were directly influenced. Furthermore, I do also believe that TP has had an effect on Brick, but I have to agree as someone said above it's only a similarity and not a complete rip-off etc. Thanks, Leopheard84.71.153.118 02:38, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
Oh come on! Massive parts of this page have been removed for some reason & I'm not sure why? Admittedly, some of it was still in the process of being verified, but what more proof you do need for some of the TP or Lynch references than a messageboard full of comments by Rian Johnson himself? A signed statement & witness testimony perhaps? Infact, I have come across this very post by the Johnson himself: http://www.rcjohnso.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=513&highlight=twin+peaks . Is that not relevant to the background of 'Brick'? I do not understand wikipedia sometimes, but I guess what one person thinks is relevant, another may not. leopheard 23:57, 16 September 2006 (UTC) -Leopheard

Filming location information?
[edit]There ought to be some info on where this was filmed (in San Clemente California, at San Clemente High School mostly, although almost all, if not all scenes, seem to be filmed in San Clemente... the opening shot was a 5 minute walk from my house).
At least this info should be in the Trivia section.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.5.130.54 (talk • contribs) 22:01, September 9, 2006.
Trivia
[edit]Brendan remarks to Laura "Now you are Dangerous", a line lifted directly from the The Maltese Falcon (Chapter 4 - The Black Bird). This is hardly a unique line. Source, or just opinion of the editor that included it?--Crossmr 04:16, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know if Rian Johnson ever actually said that line was a direct lift, but he's stated multiple lines that Brick was primarily influenced by Dashiel Hammet, so even if he hasn't specifically stated it, I think it's a pretty safe bet that it is, in fact, a direct lift. Plus, I don't see how it's a common line. Dancemotron 00:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Alltell Ad
[edit]I'm not sure if the alltell ad qualifies as a parody of Brick. Nothing in experience suggests that a massive communications firm would elect to use a small independent detective movie as the showpiece of their advertising campaign. Also, the entire "protagonist is subjected to questioning in a van" convention is well-established and is not peculiar to this film. Unless someone has a super-duper-awesome reason in favor of the alltel parodying brick thesis, this bit of trivia ought to be deleted.
Brick: A dose of Heroin
[edit]I don't think it's slang for a dose of heroin, but not sure what else you could describe it as. Maybe a measurement? Monkeyspearfish (talk) 18:15, 25 July 2008 (UTC)
- In this context a brick refers to a compressed block of heroin. It can refer to various units of measurement (kg, lb), but since there is no clear consensus and I don't believe the film is specific in this regard, I left this out. Jakob Reznik (talk) 00:52, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- The film mentions that the brick is a kilo. --Ahecht (talk) 02:16, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Reception
[edit]It opened in two theatres but grossed 2.7 million? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.147.72.15 (talk • contribs) 06:04, September 20, 2009
Is Brain real?
[edit]I have watched the film a few times now and i have noticed something. I was starting to wonder if the character Brain is actually real or if he is just a figment of the brendens imagination or his consious. (or however you spell it.) This might be a leap but i find it possible because Brain doesnt interact to anyone else in the movie (this could just be because he is a "loner".), He seems to understand the situation on equal terms with brenden and is able to fully understand him when brenden uses more complex dialouge. I am not fully sure about it. I was just kind of wandering what other people thought about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.179.178.64 (talk) 06:15, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
- You could add it, but someone in Wikipedia will delete it through not being 'encylopaedic' leopheard (talk) 22:16, 19 December 2010 (UTC)
