[edit]
The section entirely removed made no sense in English -- the generalization about the purpose and result of Bouffon --
- "The ideal performance for a bouffon would be one where the audience is wildly entertained, and then go home, realize their lives are meaningless, and commit suicide. This of course is a theoretical ideal instead of an anticipated outcome."
-- that needs re-thinking / re-working, also citation to some source which describes the need for a sense of "suicide"(?) as a result of all this... Interesting article, but sounds pretty far-out in this abbreviated form so far. Needs better links to the guy in Germany who teaches this nowadays as a theatrical technique: cites to his work, particularly. Also needs historical sections about court jesters, grotesquerie, King of Fools, other related.

Hi, I am french, and I think that details about modern french colloquial sense of bouffon is not only useful, but necessary for foreigners to understand the theater comic style of the same name. I have passed more than half an hour writing this useful paragraph, please don't destroy other people's contributions. By the way you're not supposed to refuse contributions if you don't know the subject (nor in any case, without discussion).
