History source?

[edit]

I ran across this while working on James W. Borden (1810–1882) who was a judge in Indiana. A John Borden who lived 1785–1824 and moved to Indiana in 1816.[1] His son William W. was born in 1823. This is probably the one. But it would mean founding the school when he was 61, a bit old for that time?

  1. ^ Hattie Borden Weld (1899). Historical and genealogical record of the descendants as far as known of Richard and Joan Borden, who settled in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, May, 1638: with historical and biographical sketches of some of their descendant. pp. 149, 201.

Don't under estimate William W. Borden. From the numerous historical sources I have read, this timeline falls right in line with the establishment of the Borden Institute. There is an Indiana Historical marker provided by the Indiana Historical Bureau at the site of the Borden Institute that reads as follows: "Coeducational school founded 1884 by William W. Borden primarily to serve children of southern Indiana farmers." The marker provides additional information and I have a photo of it that I am working to upload to this Wikipedia page. Thank you for your input and sources, but the establishment by William W. Borden is factual and supported historically. James G.
