Neutrality
[edit]My god..... its almost like T Boone Pickens wrote the article on him, himself. After reading the article, I felt like T Boone Pickens should be made a religion. I have made many changes to the article in order to make it more neutral (please compare the current version of the article with the one one month ago). But there is still work that needs to be done. Before I had actually put in the fact in the article, there is NO mention of the criticism of the funds and donations being used for the stadium. People have talked about this like crazy... the whole expansion and renovation of the aports facilities and in general, the campus....and yet, no one found it important to mention this in thee article. And even now, there is only a very small mention of that fact. This has also been conveniently avoided in the Oklahoma State University - Stillwater article. No mention of how much criticism there has been of the expansion project in OSU, and how OSU is actually paying compensation to those people whose homes are being destroyed as part of the expansion. I will try to include these details in the article.
If anyone can please provide some help in this regard, you are more than welcome to do so --Jibran1 19:46, 7 May 2006 (UTC)
- Criticism of the stadium renovation is virtually non-existent. Your objections to OSU's fundraising and campus expansion lie almost entirely with Oklahoma State's campus expansion for the "athletic village." Boone Pickens Stadium is NOT a part of that campus expansion, seeing as how all of its renovations are being done on its current grounds - which have been owned by Oklahoma State for virtually a century. Also, funding for the Boone Pickens Stadium renovations are derived from contributions of many more OSU alumni and fans than just T. Boone Pickens. The "Next Level" campaign was started long before Mr. Pickens had his name put on the stadium. --Doafhat 06:53, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
- Not true. I have been at OSU for quite some time now, and have heard too much discussion on the criticism of the stadium renovation (this is before the 'athletic village' or expansion of university was even announced) including daily front-page O'Colly news stories on the issue, back in 2003. The main concern was a considerable amount of student funds and increase in fees being used olny for the renovation of the Boone Pickens stadium. --Jibran1 05:26, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
- Can you please source the information about increase in student fees? I have a feeling that is completely bogus. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Okstateguy987 (talk • contribs) 03:54, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Cleanup of this page
[edit]I have edited this page down for two reasons.
One, much of it is plagiarized: the secton on "The Gift" was taken almost directly from Boone Pickens Donates $165 Million to OSU Athletics, a news release from the school, and several sections describing the stadium were simply split up sections of the page on the stadium from OkState.com (Eighth section down).
Secondly, even if this was not plagiarized material, it is not the goal of Wikipedia to give opinion pages, or, for that matter, overly extraneous back-stories, or news flashes. If you read the other pages on college football stadia, you will notice that most of them stick simply to the basics: memorable moments at the stadium, namesakes, descriptions, etc.
Bottom line - this article was much too long for a subject which could have been covered much more succinctly. As a matter of fact, I think this article, especially the section on the Boone Pickens gift controversy, could be shortened more. If anyone wants to tackle this, feel free.
Thanks, ToddC4176 02:31, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
East-West status
[edit]One more thing; this stadium is NOT the only stadium in Division I-A football which runs east-west. In fact, as many as a dozen stadiums, including the Orange Bowl, Los Angeles Coliseum, Clemson Memorial Stadium, etc., could be considered east-west. The closest it comes to this claim is that BPS is the only stadium in the Big XII that is oriented as such. ToddC4176 02:36, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
Bomb squad attendance at home games
[edit]While copyediting the article, I removed a 2005 reference to the OHP bomb squad attending all OSU home games, because that's not exactly what the article says. The piece was written 10 days after the OU student blew himself up, and actually says that bomb squad attendance was requested for the remaining 2005 home games. If someone can find a reference to current and future plans for a bomb squad at home games, by all means add it. KrakatoaKatie 22:20, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, plural of anecdote isn't data, but going back to my dorm from one game, I saw a bomb squad truck from the Highway Patrol (IIRC?) leaving the parking lot. 139.78.3.208 (talk) 19:02, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
References link
[edit]For some reason, I can't access the reference at the end of the page. I get a HTTP 403 "Forbidden" error. I don't know if everyone gets that, or if it's because I'm on "that other university's" server. Anyone want to test it elsewhere? Trvsdrlng 00:39, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
