Talk:Bonneville Salt Flats
Removed mention of World of Warcraft
[edit]I deleted the section about WoW. It simply isn't significant enough to be mentioned in an article about the Salt Flats. I used to play it so I know what it is and it just doesn't fit in an encyclopedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.178.26.115 (talk) 09:27, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
Mountains "floating in the air"
[edit]From the article: "... many of the mountains within the vicinity appear to be floating in the air since their bases are on the other side of the curve and thus out-of-sight." I dont get this. Their real bases are out of sight, agreed. But that doesnt explain why they appear floating in the air -- given only the earth's curvature, you'd still see the mountain meet the ground, except it'd be at a "virtual" base. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.195.165.72 (talk) 22:16, 26 December 2006 (UTC)
History section
[edit]I added a History section and some information from utah.com regarding the first uses as a speed trial course. --Jrishel 19:03, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
- I've added a few lines to the History section to try to show how the salt flats have come to be used, but it seems to me speed records don't quite belong here. Should the History section include speed records or are they better suited to the Bonneville Speedway article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by SmokeySteve (talk • contribs) 03:53, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Removed mention of Harley Davidson speed record
[edit]I removed the reference to the speed record set in 2005 for Harley Davidson motorcycles. It was too specific, and not relevant the the general article. Reproduced below:
Super Kaz was able to break the 200mph barrier on a Harley-Davidson V-Rod in 2005, setting the standard for all other Harley-Davidson motorcycles to come.

So how thick is the salt crust?
[edit]The section titled Salt crust thickness does not actually state the thickness of the salt crust. That is very silly. 98.124.11.221 (talk) 23:53, 8 September 2014 (UTC)
Save the Salt Foundation website
[edit]I removed the Historical Timeline which had been added to the History section, intending to move it to the talkpage before I realized it's a copyright violation, copied from www.savethesalt.org/timeline (@Rhonnie29). Perhaps that website can be used for references or as an external link. --Pipetricker 12:23, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Stardust did not land at Bonneville Salt Flats
[edit]The landing was at the Utah Test and Training Range, quite a bit to the south of the salt flats. I know that's true, and the cited reference does not say that it landed at Bonneville. Probably the whole section should be deleted.
