Notability

[edit]

This bull has been honored with the Professional Bull Riders: Heroes and Legends Celebration Brand of Honor. It's the equivalent of a Hall of Fame for a bucking bull. Only one bull per year is so honored. http://www.pbr.com/en/riders/heroes-and-legends/brand-of-honor.aspx and http://www.pbr.com/en/riders/heroes-and-legends/brand-of-honor/2014/bones.aspx

This is bull has been awarded the World Champion Bull title two times in, once in 2008 and once in 2010. The best bull of the year is awarded each year at the PBR World Finals. Only one other bull has been awarded twice. Only two other bulls have been awarded three times.

Article review

[edit]

I took a whack at the article and added some hidden text where I though more could be said, or explained. I took a pretty good whack at the text where it seemed a bit more "sports writer" than "encyclopedia." I ran earwig after my edits, and this is the result; I'd rephrase a little more of the stuff flagged there. The direct quotes and the four-word things like Built Ford Tough Series, but maybe where they include the intro like "So and So said, 'direct quote,'" maybe tweak to something like "'Direct quote' was what So and So noticed/felt/stated..." I think once you clean these up, you will probably be ready for prime time. Once you do, you might want to consider submitting it for WP:DYK if you want to... you have to do the nomination within seven days from a move to mainspace. Once you do, maybe ask WAF if she'd be interested in doing the DYK review for you, it will help to have someone knowledgable about the topic to do this first one, plus she creates a lot of new articles and will need a "QPQ" (quid pro quo) for one of hers sooner or later (so will I, but I can't do so for this one because I've edited it). Montanabw (talk · contribs) I've incorporated your wonderful developmental and copy edit into Bones. It was awesome stuff, it made the article so much better. Thank you! I will work on the sports writer tone, especially when I'm using PBR articles as a source. I used Earwig and reworded several areas, but Earwig won't seem to update, even when I press Bypass cache. tsk tsk. I've seen this before. I definitely want to try getting my first DYK and will ask WAF about it before moving the article into mainspace. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:18, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you DYK...

[edit]

I already have a "hook" idea: Did you know ... that Bones bucked off a bull rider in two seconds? Montanabw(talk) 01:54, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Montanabw (talk · contribs) I hate to burst your bubble, but that's pretty much par for the course for Smooth Operator... nice try though. Would you care to meet the 3 second bandit some day? Air Time! dawnleelynn(talk) 20:21, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Montanabw (talk · contribs) White Arabian Filly (talk · contribs) Thanks for the encouragement. WAF and I have both considered how Bones got his name as a hook. I'm still considering other hooks. I am probably to give them more than one to consider. Still thinking, will decide by tomorrow probably. dawnleelynn(talk) 22:18, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

DYK...that the bucking bull Bones is one of only four bulls to win the Professional Bull Riders World Champion Bull title more than once?

DYK...that the World Champion bucking bull Bones got his name from being described as a "bag of bones" when he was a calf?

DYK...that World Champion bucking bull Bones' owner once claimed "no cowboy wearing spurs could stay on his star bull for 8 seconds."

DYK...that World Champion bucking bull Bones exercised in a revolving sand pit at home on his owner's ranch? (I like this one the best. I just thought of it and added the content for it.)

dawnleelynn(talk) 17:22, 4 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'd either go with the "bag of bones" or the revolving sand pit -- we are looking for the clickbait hook! LOL! Montanabw(talk) 02:49, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That said, the "revolving sand pit" is actually a type of horse hot walker, which is still pretty unique for use with a bull, and the sand pit idea is particularly cool, but they are mass-produced. Maybe "exercised him in deep sand" or something. Montanabw(talk) 03:03, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You must have watched the video to make sure it's the same thing I assume. That's cool you know what it is. Your description is so much better, I'm glad you knew about it and edited the article. Teague was using that walker back in 2009, very interesting. But he was an East Coast stock contractor with a ranch in North Carolina, not a Western guy. So he may have had some special contacts. Plus, he's probably one of the richest stock contractors in the business. And I bet you've never heard of The Bull Pool either. [1]. Anyway, one question I had was the citations for the DYK. The rules say that the content in the article that the hook comes from have to be inline cited. That the exact sentences have to be inline cited. That's the only reason why I cited every sentence in the exercise paragraph. Thoughts? dawnleelynn(talk) 03:19, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Montanabw (talk · contribs) White Arabian Filly (talk · contribs)
Ok, I'm going with these two hooks because I really believe these are the most interesting. I am proposing this exact wording unless you two have any edits.
  • ... that World Champion bucking bull Bones was named after being described as a "bag of bones" as a 10-month-old calf?
  • ... that World Champion bucking bull Bones' owner exercised him in a mechanized circular walker in a deep sand pit?
I will try to nominate for DYK today. Thoughts? Also, need to know about the instructions that say the content the hook comes from must inline cited. See previous comments. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:17, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It looks good to me. I may be able to review the nom. . .Montana, do I have a COI in giving advice here? White Arabian Filly Neigh 21:57, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

White Arabian Filly, I'd go for it, you haven't edited the article much, and I have. You'll be sure that it follows the criteria even though you know us... I pinged a couple other reviewers too... but if you get there, it would be cool. Montanabw(talk) 08:41, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've reviewed. Let's hope somebody promotes it soon. I had one get reviewed and run the next day, but coon hunting, which I'm hoping will break my views record, has been in the prep for a week already. White Arabian Filly Neigh 20:33, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
White Arabian Filly (talk · contribs) Thanks for reviewing it. I really appreciate you and Montanabw helping me out with my first DYK. I looked it at a couple times. It seemed like every reviewer was skipping past mine and going for the following days. They either aren't interested or knowledgeable about bucking bulls, LOL. But seriously, I hope your article gets run soon, sounds like a week is longer than usual. Thanks again. :) dawnleelynn(talk) 21:03, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
