Gurusi people

[edit]

Sometimes, when I come up here - on Wikipedia looking for some information, I trust that I will get the most out of my time. However, when I came up this time to search about my acestoral home - Bolgatanga, I noticed some erorrs which I would like to correct. Even before others are also misled by it. Bolgatanga is my home. And even though I was born and bred in Damongo, my heart lives for my home. As such, learning about my ancestors and how they lived was as vital as the rising sun is to ancient Africans.

Bolgatanga is home to the Gurune speaking people. But, when the early Europeans arrived in Bolga in those days, our ancestors welcomed them with open arms in their native tongue - Ya fara fara which mean welcome in Gurune. And as the tradition was, all who were not available at the time a stranger(s) arrived, would have to get to know the stranger(s) and offer their welcome.

But as our ancestors greeted the Europeans in the words " Ya fara fara. " which means welcome. These Europeans, who could not understand nor speak Gurune - decided to name the Gurune speaking people by the Gurune word - "Frafra" thus the European version of "Farafara". So, to say that Bolgatanga is home of the Frafra people is like saying Britain is home of the "Welcome" people.

I have expanded this page, and included several pictures. At the same time, I included some of the information you stated above. I hope that I have remedied the errors you observed (and did not insert any new errors). Cheers--DO11.10 22:54, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
