Please be advised, there is no place in South Carolina named SUMPTER. There is a CITY named SUMTER (no "p") in the approximate center of the state. The city is the county seat of Sumter County. The name is derived from that of General Thomas Sumter, a notable figure during the revolutionary war whose nickname was "The Old Gamecock". Bobby Watts is from a wide place in the road between Camden, SC (The oldest inland city in SC) and Sumter (NO "P") named Rembert where he spent his early years.
