Verifiable, reliable sources, please...
[edit]Sorry for the snark...but I sincerely doubt if anyone would consider a Wikipedia talk page a verifiable, reliable source.Alan (talk) 21:59, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Add Governor Chris Christie To His Characters
[edit]I was very impressed with how well Bobby Moynihan played New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Saturday Night Live and I checked and double-checked and did not see Governor Christie on the list of characters that he has played. It probably should be added, however I am not sure the list of characters and recurring characters is intended to be complete, or kept complete. Thank-You!!! Dance training?
[edit]Does anyone have any information about Moynihan's background as a dancer? On a recent show he did some things that I know take years to learn. Profhum (talk) 14:38, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Bobby Moynihan. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}

Birth date
[edit]Folks have been repeatedly adding a birth date without any sourcing. This isn't just an accuracy issue, this is a privacy issue; see WP:DOB. Please do not re-add until we have some highly visible reliable third-party source for this date. --Nat Gertler (talk) 03:17, 3 June 2019 (UTC)
- An attempt was just made using IMDb as a source. IMDb is considered an unreliable source, as it is user-edited. I have undone the addition. -Nat Gertler (talk) 13:22, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
Voice actor
[edit]There have been repeated attempts to describe him as both an "actor" and a "voice actor", as if those are separate things, like voice acting isn't real acting and it's a separate profession. It's not. He's an actor, and among his roles are voice roles. One might be able to say that someone is a stage actor and a voice actor, because those are separate subcategories of acting, but saying he's an actor and a voice actor is like saying someone likes food and pizza. --Nat Gertler (talk) 05:56, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- @NatGertler: Agree to Disagree I don't know why this continues to be an issue, if literally I'm starting to notice that Bobby is starting to do more voice over roles right now. I mean look at Mark Hamill, Clancy Brown, Alan Tudyk, Lacey Chabert, Mae Whitman, Laraine Newman (who also was on SNL like Bobby before doing more Voice work), Kelly Hu, Patrick Warburton, Karen Strassman, Beau Billingslea, among many other actors and actresses they are listed as Actor/actress and voice actor/voice artist because right now they do on-camera acting and voice over. Honestly, it just wouldn't make sense to just get rid of "voice artist/voice actor" on the infoboxes ompletely and saying it as ONLY just actor when literally it's two different and separate mediums of acting, and the actors I listed as examples are perfect examples why it makes no sense to leave them as just ONLY Actor/Actress when literally I still see them doing voice-over and on-camera 50/50.--AnimeDisneylover95 (talk) 15:37, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- No, voice acting is not a separate medium from acting, it's a subset. Acting includes a broad range of performing, many of which include the person's presence - stage acting is different from live-action film acting, just as acting for the radio is different than doing cartoon voices, where you are working with an image and may even be helping to shape that image. All of these are part of the rich world of acting. If you want to say that Bobby is an actor known for both live-action roles such as X and voice roles such as Y, that's fine.... but to portray voice acting as not being part of acting is without base. Few are the recent major actors that come to mind that don't include at least some animation work in the repertoire. (I tried to think of a counter-example, but what I thought was the first solid one that comes to mind, the recently-deceased Sean Connery, had one animated film, one video game, and one voicing-the-monster-in-a-live-action-film to his credit.) --Nat Gertler (talk) 16:06, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- Again @NatGertler: you're wrong, I don't care if voice acting is a subset or not, what is VERY wrong of you is just having EVERY actors page including those that do On-camera and voice acting to just simply list Actor on their infoboxes. Again as I said and last time, you have actors of Mark Hamill, Clancy Brown, Alan Tudyk, Lacey Chabert, Mae Whitman, Laraine Newman (who also was an SNL cast member like Bobby before doing Voice work), Kelly Hu, Patrick Warburton, Karen Strassman, Beau Billingslea, Yvette Nicole Brown, to name a few that are listed as Actor/actress and voice actor/voice artist in their infoboxes in their article descriptions because right now they do on-camera acting and voice-over like Bobby Moynihan. It just doesn't make sense to just get rid of "voice artist/voice actor" on the infoboxes and descriptions on most of them, especially you continue to continue saying it's a subset and justifying that that voice artist/voice actor" should be removed and ONLY just list Actor/Actress. If you want to continue saying so otherwise that's your choice but I don't want to continue having to listen to your counterarguments and making the same nonsense that comes from you or those previously about having Voice actor and Actors be one and the same and being a subset. Lastly here is a discussion I made on the Tara Strong page I made several years ago why this has become a wishy-washy debate if you want to look over it before commenting back at me--AnimeDisneylover95 (talk) 17:02, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- You don't have to listen to anything, but you seem unable to to articulate a reason why voice acting isn't acting or why "actor" means screen actor and not just "a person who portrays a character in a performance". This isn't train conducting and orchestra conducting, which are similarly-named but unrelated things; these are aspects of the same profession, and it looks silly when we pretend to be ignorant of that. --Nat Gertler (talk) 17:28, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- @NatGertler: You're the one who seems to unable to articulate a reason why voice actor/voice artist shouldn't be listed and continuing to be adamant about it, secondly I'm well aware voice-acting is a form of acting (but that's subjective). What's frustrating is just not having "voice actor/voice artist" be put in the infoboxes or descriptions for certain actors (e.g. Bobby Moynihan, Tim Curry, Yvette Nicole Brown) who do 50/50 on-camera and voice-over or have been doing voiceover more frequently than their on-camera acting. Like I said in the discussion on the Tara Strong talkpage it makes no sense to have ANY voice actor, let alone ones that does both on-screen acting and voice acting (e.g. Mark Hamill, Clancy Brown, Alan Tudyk, Lacey Chabert, Mae Whitman) be listed as ONLY just Actor/Actress.--AnimeDisneylover95 (talk) 19:37, 2 November 2020 (UTC)
- Because it's in the nature of a list that the different items on a list are different items, not the same thing listed twice, or a thing and a section of that same thing. There are plenty of ways to note that he does both live-action and voice roles without making us look like we don't know that voice acting is acting. (And pointing to the Tara Strong discussion, where you got no one to agree with you, is not exactly bolstering your case.) --Nat Gertler (talk) 13:59, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
