Of interest to serious collectors of Bob Masse rock posters:

[edit]

It may interest purists and serious collectors that many of the psychedelic rock posters, now signed and sold as 'Bob Masse' originals, were designed, lettered, coloured and hand-separated by his former ad agency partner, Peter Matheson ...with Masse often contributing only an illustration. Bob Masse has completely removed Matheson's name from these posters which were originally printed with 'Masse/Matheson' at the bottom- the double signature which assures authenticity and originality to collectors. More curiously, Masse has also surreptitiously removed Matheson's name from original poster artwork done completely and exclusively by Matheson, replacing the single legitimate signature of Peter Matheson with his own 'Bob Masse' signature to sell the plagiarized poster as a 'Bob Masse original' (the six-panel black and white Bob Dylan poster is a popular example). Peter Matheson was a pioneer in producing 'street-poster' promotion in Vancouver. Matheson's unique lettering styles and creative layouts made him a popular poster artist with the beatnik, jazz, folk and coffeehouse establishments such as the Blue Horn, the Inquisition, the Sequel, the Ark and the Bunkhouse, establishing his creative credentials many years prior to opening his Gastown advertising agency with Bob Masse.
