"Since Grant's death, an appeal has been launched to track down his old colleagues from when he served with the Royal Artillery in his early life, with the intended aim of finding out more about his service, as he never spoke of his time in the national service in public."

My following comments are NOT intended as a criticism of the editor who posted the above, who is merely reporting the actions of others. Rather they are aimed at the said "others". Surely, if Bob had wanted to talk about his time in the Army, he would have done. "National service" as the term implies, was - during the period when it was in force - imposed on almost every able-bodied British man. Some enjoyed it and others saw it as a tedious burden to be endured. Can we not leave the guy alone? It is bad enough he was depressed and suicidal in his later years, without this being yet another opportunity to rake through someone's career in the armed forces. (My dad - who is still alive and in good mental health - also did national service, which is why this comment is anonymous, in case the same morbid individuals decide to pester him as well). 87.113.232.7 (talk) 21:01, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
