Fired vs. "last game as manager

[edit]

This one should be pretty straightforward. Tonight an editor was updating Geren's managerial career and changed some wording to obscure the fact that he was fired by Oakland in 2011. The previous wording was quite consistent with the inline citation, found here. The editor changed the sentence indicating the firing to "Geren's last game as manager was June 9, 2011" but he failed to indicate the reason that Geren didn't manage any more games that year. I reverted that change with an edit summary that the edit was too vague, but rather than following the WP:BRD cycle, the editor re-reverted it without any explanation.

Though we have not followed BRD to this point, now is as good a time as any. Rather than edit warring, let's discuss. What is the rationale for eliminating the "fired" wording in this entry? The new wording isn't even quite right, as the source was published on the morning of June 9 and indicated that another manager would manage the game that evening. EricEnfermero (Talk)
