Excellent work

[edit]

I am sure that this page has its shortcomings, like all Wikipedia articles, but I believe that it is one of the better quality pages in the Wiki universe and I would like to thank anyone who has contributed.--Soulparadox (talk) 15:35, 15 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New photo

[edit]

I think we can a better photo than this, as it is too old—any suggestions are most welcome.--Soulparadox (talk) 16:59, 18 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

@Shaidar cuebiyar: The new photo looks magnificent. Thank you. Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 14:03, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Name change warranted?

[edit]

I think a discussion about the suitability of the article name is well overdue, so I am starting it today. I have pinged @Shaidar cuebiyar: and @Dan arndt:, as they are both active on the Australian music pages. I thought that "Kevin Mitchell" is more appropriate, as "Bob Evans" is merely a moniker and doesn't take into account his ongoing work with Jebediah. Additionally, Mitchell is the name used throughout the article. I can understand that for an artist like "Tricky" the discussion differs because that is his overriding identity, regardless of who he is writing or performing with; however, Mitchell is not known as Bob Evans when he is playing with Jebediah, or even when he is playing Jebediah songs on his own, as he did for community radio in 2012. Do any other copyeditors hold an opinion? Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 14:02, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you will have to make a formal move proposal. A recent/interested editor, Lachlan Foley, made Kevin Mitchell (musician) into a redirect page back in August 2011 (see here). He cited WP:CommonName as justification, if you intend to make this move he should be pinged, too. There also could be other interest editors who may not read this page often but their opinions would help in reaching a consensus for the move.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:48, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
What do you think @Lachlan Foley: I have never requested a name change before, so I am unsure how to proceed? Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 03:06, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for letting me know. If he is more known as Bob Evans, which I think he is, I would not support an article name change back to Kevin Mitchell, for the same reason we don't have articles on David Bowie and Marc Bolan titled by their birth names. Lachlan Foley (talk) 03:32, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the prompt reply @Lachlan Foley: The reason I brought the topic to the Talk page is because I think he is more known as "Kevin Mitchell". What do others think? Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 04:20, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I fully support the move back to 'Kevin Mitchell (musician)' as he always refers to himself as Kevin never Bob. Bob Evans is purely just a stage name. I feel that it is worth putting the matter out there to get a better consensus from editors. It is worth noting that Lachlan Foley never put the name change to a vote as I for one would have argued against it but never had the chance .Dan arndt (talk) 09:06, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Familiar Stranger

[edit]

The article currently contains far too much material on this album – even after I've trimmed some down. It requires its own article but I can't decide whether it should be called ''[[Familiar Stranger (Bob Evans album)]]'' or ''[[Familiar Stranger (Kevin Mitchell album)]]'' as it would depend on the success or failure of the above move proposal. We need to get that proposal up and running.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:23, 17 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I've been bold! I created the new article, Familiar Stranger, and trimmed down some of the related material out of this article.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 08:38, 20 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Here's to boldness in the Year of the Sheep! Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 14:16, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 18 February 2015

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved. Number 57 12:59, 26 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bob Evans (musician)Kevin Mitchell (musician) – The article was originally (and correctly titled Kevin Mitchell (musician)) however was moved (without discussion) to Bob Evans (musician) in August 2011 on the basis of WP:COMMONNAME. I believe that this artist is commonly known by both names, with Bob Evans only being a stage name for his solo releases. In all dealings with the artist (i.e. interviews etc) he always addresses himself as Kevin not Bob, this is substantially different to articles such as David Bowie and Marc Bolan, for which the artists refer to themselves as David Bowie and March Bolan and not their respective birth names. Kevin Mitchell has also had a notable career prior to adopting the stage name of Bob Evans for his solo releases. As such the article should be titled Kevin Mitchell (musician). Dan arndt (talk) 05:35, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Move I agree with Dan. Furthermore, even when reporting on Bob Evans, most media also mentions his real name as being Kevin Mitchell and they often give his membership of Jebediah (&/or Basement Birds). When performing Jedediah material on his own, he uses Kevin Mitchell not Bob Evans. In terms of chronology, he was already known (in Australian music circles) as Kevin Mitchell years before Bob Evans was invented. This is akin to a performer like Roy Rene, who adopt a persona "Mo McCackie" for limited usage, but are more widely known by their actual name.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 23:52, 18 February 2015 (UTC)07:35, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move Regards,--Soulparadox (talk) 14:16, 21 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Move - The above reasoning makes sense. -- Chuq (talk) 23:23, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
