etymology

[edit]

there might still be some truth in this (pure speculation now). as the surname of the said person is likely to have been derived from another place's name "blumenau". compare to the case of cambridge, uk and cambridge (any in the us). just a little impulse. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.15.167.59 (talk) 11:20, 11 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Blumenauu.jpg Nominated for speedy Deletion

[edit]
An image used in this article, File:Blumenauu.jpg, has been nominated for speedy deletion at Wikimedia Commons for the following reason: Copyright violations
What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

This information is incorrect:

"Blumenau's first recorded flood took place in the dawn on September 23, 1880. The worst took place in 1983 and 1984, when the city was completely isolated for weeks."

According the book "FRANK, B., PINHEIRO, A. Enchentes na Bacia do Itajaí: 20 anos de experiências. Blumenau: Edifurb, 2003." (Trnaslation: Floods in Itajaí Basin: 20 year's experiencies), the worst five floods in Blumenau were (by order):

  1. 09/23/1880 17.10 meters
  2. 10/02/1911 16.90 meters
  3. 10/29/1852 16.30 meters
  4. 08/07/1984 15.46 meters
  5. 07/09/1983 15.34 meters

(see complete list 1852 to 2011 in the link above)

Thanks.
