How is dynamite used for this?

[edit]

Wouldn't the fuse be entinguished as soon as the pack/bundle of dynamite goes underwater? I'm not sure it stays lit. The snare (talk) 11:05, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Include reference to the saying "Fishing with dynamite"

[edit]

This page should include a reference to the common saying "Doing x is like fishing with dynamite" (Implying that x is so easy thats it is boring and doesn't demonstrate any skill) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.210.216.68 (talk) 22:51, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to 2 external links on Blast fishing. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true to let others know.

Suggestions

[edit]

I noticed that citation number one leads to a dead link. There should be a section about the danger to fishermen who use this method. There should also be a citation at the beginning of the section Impact on Coral Reefs clearly stating which researchers believe that it is a leading threat to reef health. There should be a citation regarding Tanzanian mitigation of Blast fishing, one is missing.

Improvements could be made in the "Control" section, talking about how different local and state governments test fish to determine whether they were caught with this method. Additions can be made to "Tanzania" citing recent developments and efforts of the government to further reduce blast fishing. Tanzania should be further updated to provide citations or context to the quote "coral reefs are essential for both ecological and socio-economic reasons."

A new section could be added about the short term impact that leftover ordinance from World War Two had on frequency of Blast fishing. This could be included in the description section, or integrated into a new section called "History." Another possible section is "Remediation and Recovery," covering documented cases of reefs that have recovered or not.
