Distance

[edit]

Back in the later '90s, I used to live up in Vista, Ca. I rode the bus down the coastal highway to Torrey Pines beach, got off, walked to the end of that beach, continued around a tight cliff trail, walked all the way down Black's Beach, and ended up down in La Jolla public beach. Thank God I took some water with me. I wanted to see if what I heard was true. Yes, it was a nude beach. To my dismay, though, 99% of the people there that were nude were men. Don't stop, keep walking, keep walking. The only way out was to 1. turn around and walk the distance back to where I started, 2. go up the goat trails towards Torrey Pines cliffs, and I do mean goat trails, or 3. continue down to La Jolla. By the time I got down to La Jolla, I thought I was going to die. It took a few hours for the travel, but ended up in one piece. I probably would have gotten down there faster if I was more on solid ground. The only two styles of ground to walk on was either dry sand or wet sand. My question, though, is what is the approx. distance from Torrey Pines beach down to La Jolla beach. I tried to measure it using the San Diego road atlas book, but did not get an acurate distance. Anyone who can help me out with this, I would really appreciate. Thanks158.35.225.230 14:16, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is not really a 'de facto nude beach' any longer. I have seen two naked persons in all of many trips, it would better be described as a place where drum circles (rainbow family) met until recently and a place where kids get drunk. Also, the surf is great but not as godly as the article would suggest.

Yeah, that is Black's. Surf is actually pretty decent but a pain to get down to. I long boarded there. Did not find a lot of aggressive grommets or the like (can't remember the name but is one break in LJ that has localism. Still...I don't care about those kids since on a longboard I get more waves...and have more weight than them!) I didn't see too many people in the water (was winter though). Did not seem dangerous in terms of reefs or the like (there are trickier spots in Sunset Cliffs). I do remeber 6 of us (a couple that were almost pro surfer quality) taking a day off of engineering work and surfing the place in March. Was one wave that just crushed me (just trying to paddle out and it annihilated me). I thought it was just me, but after I talked to the rest of the guys, they said, "don't worry man, we all got taken out". Made me feel better for some reason.  ;-)

Proposed Photos and Changes

[edit]

Hi, this is my first time editing Wikipedia so I hope I do things right. I live in San Diego and spend a lot of time at the beaches, and would like to expand some of the information in Wikipedia about the beaches. For Blacks Beach I propose:

1. Adding some photos that are in Wikimedia Commons, to illustrate more what the beach looks like (vs. the cliffs), and to show the 4 land access routes to Blacks Beach. Do you think this would be helpful? Here are the links: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blacks-Beach-View-South-La-Jolla.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blacks-Beach-South_Access-From-Scripps-Beach.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blacks-Beach-Road-From-UCSD.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blacks-Beach-Trail-From-Torrey-Pines-Gliderport.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Blacks-Beach-View-North-High-Tide.jpg

2. Expand the article to talk more about the relationship of Torrey Pines State Beach, Black's Beach State Beach, and Black's Beach city beach. I'm not sure if people are watching this article or not. If you are, let me know what you think! Thank you.Abeach4u (talk) 00:38, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds good to me; the pictures look good; just make sure that any additions or changes are properly cited.Athene cunicularia (talk) 02:49, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm starting on the edits to Black's Beach, it might take me a day or two to finish adding in the references and photos. Abeach4u (talk) 19:40, 1 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reverts

[edit]

What's with this edit? [1] It keeps coming back. Is there some way of accomodating this editor's issues a bit so that we can achieve a stable article? Either way, the reverting should stop. Please discuss the issues here.   Will Beback  talk  08:55, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I didn't see your note until after I undid his changes once again. The edits don't seem constructive or supported by citations, so I'm not sure what can be done to accommodate. Any ideas?Athene cunicularia (talk) 05:01, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I left a note on the editor's talk page.[2] He says there that he is on the committee that maintains the beach, so he has an obvious interest.   Will Beback  talk  05:12, 27 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
