Bjarke Ingels or BIG?

[edit]

I have read with interest this informative article on Bjarke Ingels but there seems to be some confustion, particularly in regard to projects and awards, as to whether this is really about the individual or rather about the achievements of the firm he founded and which now has a team of over 80. Indeed, careful investigation into some of the work would seem to indicate that other architects were in fact the designers or prizewinners. An easy solution would be to write a separate article on the firm but, failing this, I think it is important to ensure the desgin work and the awards are truly those of Ingels himself. Ipigott (talk) 17:34, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I also have read this article and declare being impressed and inspired by Ingels' accomplishments in such a short time period. I feel there is no need to clear the air on "his" or "his firm's" accomplishments. Its truly a non issue do to the fact he "owned the firm" and all (at least in part with his partner) the firm produced. Unless there exists gross contradiction, the article should not be edited by any large measure. Further, as a young entrepreneur practicing architecture myself, I see this as inspiration. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.105.73.154 (talk) 04:42, 5 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Got to agree with Ipigott here. The article seems to be almost entirely about BIG and not much about Ingels himself. The information about Ingels is not cited to independent, reliable sources. In effect, I would suggest the article should be about BIG. If Ingels has design partners in his practice then the projects probably aren't attributed to him only. If they are attributed to him, we'd need to see the proof. As an individual, he's barely notable, IMO. Sionk (talk) 09:30, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, there is already an article about BIG, so there is not need to repeat the information twice. Sionk (talk) 09:44, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, most of this information belongs in the BIG article.842U (talk) 10:32, 3 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Building a Better Future October 28, 2011. 141.218.36.43 (talk) 22:33, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Excerpt ...

According to Ingels, "sustainability" and "green" architecture have for too long been associated with cold showers and turning off the lights when you leave a room. But hedonism is too strong a human impulse, he believes. Shunning "the Protestant idea that it has to hurt to do good," Ingels thinks that buildings can address environmental concerns and still be beautiful, perplexing, comfortable, ironic, joyful and fun. Urban tower blocks don't have to be crammed with dreary rectangles. They can have courtyard gardens and submarine-like periscopes, and still be cost-effective.

I don't know who made that up but I disagree with it. Date of birth and place of birth should be standard practice.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:48, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just having a quick look at this, the article has developed very nicely so now is comprehensive and well structured. I find it relies a bit too much on magazines rather than reputable architecture critics, but is ok for GA. The Architectural Review quote is probably the most insightful.

I'd agree with you on sources normally but having researched quite a lot into this I can honestly say that the bulk of the material appears to be in architecture magazines and websites. Very few books document him in the sort of detail we need, its magazines and newspapers which contain the real goods, which I think is fine at least for GA as you say and shouldn't really be a problem at FA given that there are not a massive number of books with details and it would likely be pretty comprehensive should we ever go that far.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:02, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of minor issues:

  • Primary units should be consistently used, and as the vast majority of his projects are in countries using the metric system, it should be metric first. Certainly so for his Danish projects. Probably worth abbreviating, is quite tiresome to go each time through the "xx,xxx square metres (x,xxx, xxx sqare feet)" format.
Agreed, done.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:21, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "in February 2012 Ingels was invited by British Prime Minister David Cameron to a discussion in 10 Downing Street on urban design and safer cycling" - not sure how is this relevant and notable if we don't know of any outcome, and does not help the encyclopaedia entry stay concise.
Removed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:21, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hope this is of assistance. --ELEKHHT 00:11, 19 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • This looks good to pass now. Thank you Elekhh for also commenting.

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
