Parish?
[edit]Is Bispham a parish? It's not listed under List of civil parishes in Lancashire, but this article is using {{Infobox England and Wales civil parish}}
. --Dr Greg (talk) 11:53, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Youngs book (Youngs, F. A. (1991). Guide to the local administrative units of England. (Volume 1: Northern England). London: Royal Historical Society. ISBN 0861931270.) is a bit difficult to interpret, as the history of the ancient parish and its changes are complex. If, however, one goes to the Lancashire Government website, and enters the three terms: parish clerk Bispham into the search field, it yields this page of results which suggests that there is a civil parish for the place. I'm not sure if it has its own website, or whether one can find out how many parish councillors it has, however. Going to election maps website and entering Blackpool for the local authority, one can eventually get an Ordnance Survey map with options to show various boundaries. However, if one selects the options to show parish boundaries, they don't seem to show up for Bispham. May be an email to a relevant person in the council would help? DDStretch (talk) 12:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, I've double-checked List of civil parishes in Lancashire and found Bispham, West Lancashire which is a different place altogether. So I guess that's the source of confusion. In which case the infobox should be changed (but I haven't time to do it myself right now). --Dr Greg (talk) 17:34, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Just to confirm that even though Bispham was in existence for hundreds of years before Blackpool and the local church was the "Mother church" of Blackpool, the village does not have a Parish Council. It has two wards (Bispham and Greenlands) which are part of Blackpool Council. The infobox was added with the comment that it might be the wrong infobox last year some time. What should the correct infobox be, as I will amend it to that? Thanks.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 17:40, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- After the election-maps site turned up nothing, I did have the notion that there may well be another place called Bispham (this kind of duplicate name happens a lot in Cheshire as well), but had to attend to some real-life matters and it went completely from my mind. But if there is, the entries in Youngs book (referred to above) now becomes much more clear and comprehensible. It seems that both places used to be ancient parishes, in fact, but only one continues to be one (the one in West Lancashire.) Given that the place we are focusing on here isn't now a civil parish, then the article probably should use Infobox UK place. Once I get other matters out of the way, if someone reminds me, I could add the parish history to the article. Is there an article for the other Bispham? DDStretch (talk) 18:28, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- There is indeed, though it is Bispham Green rather than simply Bispham as Bispham on the Fylde coast. There is a disambig page Bispham. I will have a go at changing the infobox to Infobox UK place.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 18:33, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK I found the correct infobox which is located at Template:Infobox UK place/doc/Unitary - the first template "Unitary district within a shire/unitary mix". That is correct for Bispham which is part of Blackpool Council and ceremonially still part of Lancashire.
I don't know though how to move up all the content in line with the infobox. Perhaps someone could have a look at that?Also two things need adding, the grid reference and the population. With the population, as I mentioned above Bispham is covered by two local wards - Bispham ward and Greenlands ward. Presumably that information can be used to obtain the population? If not let me know what is needed. Thanks for the help.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 19:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
