Edward I or II ?

[edit]

Hi, I'm contributing on french wikipedia portal. Could someone verify one thing: is it really Edward II who laid the first stone ? Cause he wasn't born when Bisham Abbey was founded (if it is really 1260). Couldn't it be his father ? Thanks in advance for any info you may have 142.213.188.6 (talk) 19:18, 10 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Foundation of the Priory, not the Knights Templar preceptory. Verica Atrebatum (talk) 22:13, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your article 'List of Monasteries dissolved by Henry VIII of England' does not list the dissolution of the Priory and says the Abbey when dissolved was Augustinian. These two arlicles cannot both be right. More interestingly Francis Hackett in his book 'henry the Eighth' New York 1929 pub Horace Liveright Inc says that Henry VIII founded the Abbey at Bisham in memory of his Queen Jane Seymour. I have found no evidence so far but I should be glad to know whether this is true. JohnMorris I
