Singles Chart

[edit]

Ok, whoever keeps changing the numbers on 2 of the singles, saying that they didn't chart, STOP! The numbers were there until you started changing them. They need to be corrected. I know for a fact that "Deja Blue" and "Trail of Tears" were BOTH Top 5 hits. Thank you.

Hate to tell you, but you're dead wrong. We've gone through this before. I have actual copies of the Billboard country charts from 1990 to 1999, and none of them list Deja Blue or Trail of tears as chart entries, much less Top 5 hits. Billy's chart history at Allmusic AND at Billboard don't even list the songs, and LP Discography lists the songs as non-charting singles. Check your facts before adding any more erroneous information to this page. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsReview?) 02:17, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I have my facts, and I know they are right. These were both Top 5 singles, and they did in fact chart. I don't want to start a feud or controversy, but Billy Ray is my favorite singer, and I know all about him. Thanks!
Please sign your entries with 4 tildes. If you have the facts, you need to create a reference to them. It must be possible for others to verify what your reference says. Without any proof, we really can't accept the data.--NrDg 02:24, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please refrain from adding the info again. Please review WP:RS and WP:V for more info on why we can't include your info at this time. --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 02:26, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Im just asking a question, (not trying to be rude), but why did it say the numbers for position of the singles awhile back? I can understand now that they didn't chart, but about a month ago, it said they were Top 5 hits..
Because some other goof was putting erroneous info up too. Ten Pound Hammer(Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsReview?) 02:57, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

According to Billboard, "Achy Breaky Heart" is the most popular song by Billy Ray Cyrus. This is all proven, and deleting proven facts is not allowed on Wikipedia.

Clean up required

[edit]

This article has been tagged since the start of the year may this please get sorted. Also I think there is a lot of speculation of what is truth in this article. I've seen at least 5 people complain about this article. Also about his former home why is it only one site that backs it up? Other sources need to be found pronto.

Completely agree - the first line alone is absolutely laughable " who helped make country music a worldwide phenomenon" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.39.157.193 (talk) 01:54, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cyrus's former home

[edit]

"The family resided on a 500-acre farm in Spring Hill, outside of Nashville, Tennessee".

Ok, I highly doubt that Cyrus lived on a 500 acre farm because from what I've read of his biography it in no way suggests he has ever been in the money. Also a 500 acre site could probably fit five towns into it. There is no sufficent evidence to back this up so therefore this leaves me with no alternative but too delete this refereance.

This is backed up with an authoritative cite. Lack of belief does not override a cited fact. Sufficient evidence backs this up so deletion reversed.

I've checked the link it has no mention of them living on a farm? Like someone would say back home in Tennessee I lived on a 500- acre farm.

There needs to be more evidence than the source cited for god sake it looks as if a child has wrote it come on that is most certianly not a source. 71.32.188.84 19:08, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That particular cite is used as a basis for a lot of his biographical information. It may be poorly written in your opinion but it is a trusted source by Wiki rules. --NrDg 16:37, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia must obviously have low rules then! Not only is his biography poorly written it's an awful site which contains a lot of trivial information. Should we include all the other information that this reference gives us like his fav food? 71.32.188.84 05:57, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry this refernce has to be deleted the article in question hardly admits to the truth. I know this is a site were people can edit regularly however this is just utter vandalism. I am shocked and dissapointed that such low standards apply to this site. Wikipedia needs to get a grip on reality! It is impossible to own a 500 cre peice of land would'nt that be about 50 miles or more.

500 acres is about a 4600' x 4600' chunk of land. ~.8 sq miles, less than a section. This is not a lot of land. Your lack of belief does not a fact make. --NrDg 22:16, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How many miles do you think a city such as New York, New York's city centre is I can assure you it's not as much as 500 miles which is about 150 acres. Imagine this outside a huge city it is not possible. I belive they lived on a farm yes fair do's and they may have had about 50 acres say. But what I'm talking about living space Cyrus did not live on all his 50 acres did he?

What about his Persian ancestry?

You have no concept of size. 500 acres is 0.8 Square miles and is about an 8x10 block chunk of a normal grid type city. It is a small farm. People Magazine July 2, 2007 edition also backs the cite. --NrDg 01:37, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok if you really want to make a point then why the hell don't you make an account. Prima Donna man.

The Vatican city is 384 acres America is a big place but there's no possible way 500 acres could be owned independantly. I have a theory though that Cyrus lived on a farm and then maybe had feilds behind his land whis equalled 500 acres. --Doggywhatsits 05:39, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Figure $2000/acre for farmland near Nashville makes 500 acres worth $1,000,000. Could be higher, or lower depending on location. Look up land sales in Tennessee if you wish. Easily affordable for successfully entertainers. Lots of individuals own property this size or larger. --NrDg 14:29, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This has to be a joke and I am forced to bring this back to attention. Look if you're going to call Cyrus a hit entertainer when he had only one hit song in America then that's your business but the rest of the world think otherwise. Aside from acting in his daughters comedy series which is frankly pathetic for the man and singing Achey Breaky Heart years ago the mans done nothing but make a few publicity appearances. If he owned a 500 acre farm then it'd be hard getting used to house that most people have as the size of their room. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.54.229.223 (talk) 21:55, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what exactly the issue is with land ownership; my in-laws sold off a 650 acre tree farm in East Tennessee 8 years ago for $200,000 (which irritated me, BTW), and had about 300 acres left over. I could easily go and buy a 500 acre chunk of land tomorrow if I had $200-250,000 to spare, probably less if I wanted to live in Western Kentucky. Most of my neighbors were farmers growing up in Illinois, and probably the smallest farm was 150 acres.Paganize (talk) 09:20, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Side notes

[edit]

"Cyrus and Tritt's rivalry was noted by Tupac Shakur, who saw that the feud elevated the fame of both persons, even the perceived one-hit wonder Cyrus. Shakur was inspired by this to turn on his friend Biggie Smalls---for commercial, not personal success." Seriously, is there ANY substancial evidence that this is true? Sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

SemiProtection against?

I've seen many edits by IP users that are well mostly/sometimes doing vandalism so we should have SemiProtection so it's not so much vandalism on this page. --Kanonkas 19:15, 5 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why?

[edit]

I don't get it?!? I worked my butt off trying to make the "singles" and "album" chart BETTER, and then as soon as I get it done, it gets deleted and changed back to the plain, ugly, boring white colors. I think it gives it a lot more info the way I had it. Thanks!! --ElboMisery1993.

Suggest you describe what you want to do first in this discussion page. It is obvious that some editors like the page the way it is and are resisting change. Given that, you will need to get people to agree with what you want to do or it will be reverted. Wikipedia tries to work on a consensus basis. I understand how frustrating it can be to do a lot of work and have it deleted. Also suggest that you register. There is so much vandalism by editors identified by their IP address that it is hard to be taken seriously if you don't have a registered identity. Also suggest using the "Show Preview" button instead of "Save Page" to check intermediate changes. Filling the history log with large amounts of partial edits tends to annoy people. Good luck. --NrDg 20:43, 2 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I sort of noticed people don't like what I did. So should I tell what I would like to do? Thanks for luck, Im going to need it. --ElboMisery1993

Changing the Album/Single chart

[edit]

I would like to change and update the charts with a colored back-ground, and putting (#) in front of the numbers. If I think I want to change something, I will talk it out on here. ----ElboMisery1993

Suggest you check out WP:CHARTS for some background on standard practices before making any major changes. --NrDg 16:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also if you don't like the WP:CHARTS style guide, the best place to discuss what you would like to see is in the discussion page for WP:CHARTS. People will continue to revert things that don't conform to the style guide. It is really hard to go against it. --NrDg 02:58, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Other Side 8 times platinum?

Billy Ray Cyrus discography article re-creation

[edit]

I would like to split out the discography section of this article into a separate article again. Almost all the revisions to this article over the last three months have been in the discography section and the edits related to the rest of the article are getting lost in the noise of the updates and reverts that are continually occurring. Before doing anything others might consider rash, I'd like to see if there are any comments, concerns, rabid dislike of the idea, etc. I know that there is already an article with that name redirected back to here by User:TenPoundHammer May 29, 2007 that was created October 4, 2006. I am not familiar with the reasons for the fold back into here, I assume they were good ones. I just think that in terms of the recent activity here that we should revisit the decision. --NrDg 05:19, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I requested semi-protect on this page and it is now protected for a while. This might give us a breather to see what happens and possibly make a split out unnecessary for a while. Depends on whether or not our prolific constantly reverted friendly anonymous editor from Saint Louis chooses to log in or not to make his non-consensus changes. --NrDg 16:57, 2 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Album Chart Re-Construction Suggestion

[edit]

Copied to Talk:Billy Ray Cyrus discography please continue discussion there.--NrDg 03:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to suggest that we re-construct Billy Ray's album chart, so that the RIAA Certification isn't shown, so it can't or won't cause conflict. Also, I would like to make its own Discography page which was created earlier in the year, and was deleted. ElboMisery1993 01:15, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you wish the RIAA certification stuff to go away? It is authoritative and is based on the most accurate data available. It does measure stuff differently than the Nielsen_SoundScan retail sales figures, but it included more sales outlets than soundscan. I think is is good data and should be incorporated with any conflicts explained, if necessary.--NrDg 03:24, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Discography page is made Billy Ray Cyrus discography. --Caldorwards4 02:00, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Birth Name

[edit]

I've heard that his birth name is William . Can some one confirm this for me, so we can add this to his page?

Billy is a shortened form of William (as is Will, Bill, etc.,). Not really important. WAVY 10 Fan 12:18, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It may or may not be a shortened form of William. It could be a nickname for something else. Some people are christened with what would otherwise be a nickname. I've extensively looked for ANYTHING published and all biographies including those on his official site never mention anything other than "Billy Ray" as his name. Until we get a reliable source of information that says his birth name is something else, we need to stick with what has been published so far. --NrDg 13:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I watched the TV show Biography on the Biography Channel that featured Billy Ray Cyrus ""Billy Ray Cyrus Biography". A&E/Biography. 2007-12-20. {{cite episode}}: External link in |title= (help); Unknown parameter |serieslink= ignored (|series-link= suggested) (help)" where his birth certificate was shown and verified that his name at birth was William Ray Cyrus. --NrDg 16:23, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see a number of editors have changed the lede from "Billy Ray Cyrus (born William Ray Cyrus)" to "William Ray "Billy" Cyrus" [1] and [2]. I revert both, the first with comment "He has never used William Ray Cyrus - treat like he changed his name or that Billy Ray Cyrus is his current official name." To expand on this all his official credits including writer credits that require use of his legal name show "Billy Ray Cyrus". His legal/stage/professional name is "Billy Ray Cyrus". Billy is NOT a nickname, Billy Cyrus is NEVER used so the nickname construct William Ray "Billy" Cyrus is not appropriate. --NrDg 22:24, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since this still seems to be contentious. His name is no longer "William Ray Cyrus". It used to be but it is not any longer. His legal name is "Billy Ray Cyrus". "William Ray Cyrus" is a former name, not his current name. It is factually erroneous to state or imply in any way in the article that is current legal name is "William Ray Cyrus". --NrDg 15:49, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name

[edit]

It is clearest and most succinct to introduce him as "William 'Billy' Ray Cyrus", not "Billy Ray Cyrus (born William Ray Cyrus)". Billy is a common nickname for William; it is not a pseudonym. It's different for Billy the Kid and Billy Ocean, whose real names aren't William, but a comparison here would be Billy Joel or Billy Squier. Nicknames are introduced in a similar fashion for Bill Gates, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Tim Curry, Tom Hanks, etc. Phrasing such as "Billy Ray Cyrus (born William Ray Cyrus)" is needlessly wordy unless he has legally changed his name from William to Billy. The vast majority of people who go by Billy were "born" William. There is no need to spell this out unless his use of the nickname somehow differs from the typical use. Cosmic Latte (talk) 15:53, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As I said above, in this specific case, "Billy Ray Cyrus" IS his current legal name and should be treated as such. Billy is a common nickname for William but that is not the case here. Billy Ray Cyrus's correct proper legal first name is no longer William. Given the evidence of writer credits he HAS legally changed his name. For consistency with other performer articles where the performer has changed his legal name the birth name should be mentioned in the bio early life section and not in the lede. --NrDg 16:07, 2 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Legal name changes are a matter of public record, are they not? If he really has changed his name, there ought to be some solid evidence of this. If none can be found, it would seem reasonable to assume by default that he's doing the same thing with his name as Billy Joel, Billy Crystal, Billy Squier, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Bill Bradley, Buffalo Bill, and the vast majority of Bills and Billys in the world. Cosmic Latte (talk) 08:25, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Name changes are also a matter of common law usage which is also a legal way to change a name. The public record is usage when a legal name is required. Since there is no evidence that Cyrus has ever used William Ray Cyrus for anything and he has used Billy Ray Cyrus on everything of record that requires use of his full legal name, the common law presumption is that Billy Ray Cyrus is his full legal name. I had to search really hard to find anything that supported William Ray Cyrus as his birth name and finally found it on an image of his birth certificate on a TV show. There is nothing else anywhere that shows him using anything but Billy Ray Cyrus. Normally we can presume that Billy is a nickname but in this case the evidence refutes that. An argument could also be made for a lot of other Williams based on common law that they too have made Billy or Bill their common law legal name. I know some haven't, such as President William Jefferson Clinton, Senator William W. Bradley and William Henry Gates III as they do use William for legal purposes. The others would require some investigation. Billy Joel might actually be his legal name now. --NrDg 14:41, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Party

[edit]

Not that it's too important (he's a country singer, not a politician), I see conflicting reports on Billy Ray Cyrus' political affiliation. WikiAnswers says he's 'probably' a staunch Democrat, citing his asking McCain to stop playing one of his songs. Yet, according to the Huffington Post, he's headlining a 'Freedom Concert' hosted by Sean Hannity! Either he's some kind of Democratic sell-out, or he's a Republican who doesn't like John McCain (or, having people play his songs without paying him). Does anyone have any info on this?!199.8.26.10 (talk) 04:00, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Like you said, this is irrelevant to why he is notable. He is not a politician, is not involved in any way more than any other lightly involved US citizen might be unlike some other entertainers where they have made this an issue. There is no justification for any of this to be in the article. --NrDg 15:47, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

description is a bit excessive

[edit]

The article refers to BRC as "an American country music singer, songwriter and actor, that helped make the country music a worldwide phenomenon."

Isn't this a bit over the top? I would have thought Country was worldwide when guys like Marty Robbins and Hank Williams were singing, let alone Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, at least 20-30 years before BRC made it big. (79.190.69.142 (talk) 18:03, 3 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]

While that is partly true, the statement is referenced by 3 different sources. You mention Marty Robbins and others, they however, didn't achieve the worldwide success that Billy Ray did. He had a number-one hit in several countries, whereas the ones you mentioned failed to chart internationally, or very poorly. EnDaLeCoMpLeX (contributions) • (let's chat) 19:36, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There are three references but none of them actually make the claim thet he "helped make the country music a worldwide phenomenon". That appears to be WP:SYNTH.

--AussieLegend (talk) 21:50, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The fact Cyrus had a bigger hit doesn't mean he helped make country "a worldwide phenomenon". Both Parton and Cash have had huge followings internationally for decades (both achieving top ten hits in UK years before BRC was on the scene). Marty Robbins, whilst not achieving the chart success, headlined at Country festivals internationally and Kenny Rogers had 2 number one hits in UK in 1970's. I was listening to German country bands in the 1980's. This wiki link shows country was worldwide decades ago. http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Country_music#Other_international_country_music The Herald-Journal article (citation 2) speaks of a "worldwide resurgence" in Country, suggesting it was big before. Likewise, it says BRC is "riding high", not that he helped create the new wave (although he's obviously one of its prime movers). I'm not denying BRC's talent, success or appeal, I'm just pointing out that Country was already a well established worldwide phenomenon well before he came along. Perhaps "helped move country into into a wider mainstream internationally" (79.190.69.142 (talk) 08:40, 21 October 2010 (UTC))[reply]
Just to push the point a bit more, Kenny Rogers, according to wikipedia "However, the single "Lucille" (1977) was a major hit, reaching number one on the pop charts in 12 countries, selling over five million copies, and firmly establishing Rogers's post-First Edition career." I think this might just show that BRC was not the first major international Country star to have a worldwide hit. (79.190.69.142 (talk) 22:39, 7 January 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Marital date discrepancy

[edit]

This Wikipedia article lists December 28, 1992 as the date of Billy Ray Cyrus's marriage to Tish Cyrus, nee Finley. This is consistent with the cited ABC News article, which does say Cyrus "secretly married Finley on Dec. 28 1992." However, page 3 of the divorce documents filed on October 26, 2010, and posted on October 27, 2010 by TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2010/10/27/miley-cyrus-parents-billy-ray-tish-divorce-irreconcilable-differences/) list the marriage date as December 28, 1993 (one year later). It seems unlikely that court documents would get the marital date wrong, given the relevance of such a date to the divorce proceedings. Is this grounds for changing the date listed in the article? Please edit this, found under the Personal Life section of Billy Ray Cryus' Wikipedia page.

In a 2004 interview on ABC News: Primetime, Cyrus stated that daughter Miley (conceived with Finley) and son Christopher (conceived with Luckey) were both born in 1992, at which time Cyrus was unmarried, and that his marriage to Finley the following year when she was pregnant with their son was secret and against his record company's advice.

As this is quite misleading, the text should clarify: In a 2004 interview on ABC News: Primetime, Cyrus stated that daughter Miley (conceived with Finley) and son Christopher (conceived with Luckey) were both born in 1992, at which time Cyrus was unmarried, and that his marriage to Finley the following year when she was pregnant with their first son, Braison Chance, was secret and against his record company's advice.

The description is still a bit too subjective

[edit]

The description reads like it was written by Billy Ray Cyrus himself (or his publicist). It should be written more like any other wiki article (a neutral tone). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.219.117.33 (talk) 06:34, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

For reference, here is the description of Dolly Parton:

"Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19, 1946[2]) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, actress, author, and philanthropist, best known for her work in country music. Beginning her career as a child performer, Parton issued a few modestly successful singles from 1959 through the mid-1960s, showcasing her distinctive soprano voice. She came to greater prominence in 1967 as a featured performer on singer Porter Wagoner's weekly television program; their first duet single, a cover of Tom Paxton's "The Last Thing on My Mind", was a top-ten hit on the country singles charts, and led to several successful albums before they ended their partnership in 1974. Moving towards mainstream pop music, Parton's 1977 single "Here You Come Again" was a success on both the country and pop charts. A string of pop-country hits followed into the mid-1980s, the most successful being her 1981 hit 9 to 5" (from the film of the same name), and her 1983 duet with Kenny Rogers "Islands in the Stream", both of which topped the U.S. pop and country singles charts. A pair of albums recorded with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris were among her later successes. In the late 1990s, Parton returned to classic country/bluegrass with a series of acclaimed recordings. Non-musical ventures include the creation of Dollywood, a theme park in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee, and her efforts on behalf of childhood literacy, particularly her Imagination Library. She has composed over 3,000 songs,[3] the best known of which include "I Will Always Love You" (a two-time U.S. country chart-topper for Parton, as well as an international pop hit for Whitney Houston), "Jolene", "Coat of Many Colors","9 to 5", and "My Tennessee Mountain Home". Parton is one of the most successful female country artists of all time,[4] with an estimated 100 million in record sales.[5] As an actress, she starred in the movies 9 to 5, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Rhinestone, Steel Magnolias, Gnomeo & Juliet, Straight Talk, Unlikely Angel, and Joyful Noise."

This is Billy Ray Cyrus:

"William "Billy" Ray Cyrus (born August 25, 1961)[1] is an American country music singer, songwriter, actor and philanthropist, who has achieved great success worldwide.[2][3][4] Having released twelve studio albums and forty-four singles since 1992, he is best known for his number one single "Achy Breaky Heart", which became the first single ever to achieve triple Platinum status in Australia. It was also the best-selling single in the same country in 1992[5][6] and was translated into more than 100 languages.[7] Thanks to the video of this hit, the line dance catapulted into the mainstream, becoming a worldwide craze.[8][9][10][11][12] Cyrus, a multi-platinum selling recording artist, has scored a total of eight top-ten singles on the Billboard Country Songs chart. His most successful album to date is his debut Some Gave All, which has been certified 9× Multi-Platinum in the United States and is the longest time spent by a debut artist at number one on the Billboard 200 (17 consecutive weeks) and most consecutive chart-topping weeks in the SoundScan era.[13][14] It is the only album (from any genre) in the SoundScan era to log 17 consecutive weeks at number one and is also the top-ranking debut album by a male country artist. It ranked 43 weeks in the top 10, a total topped by only one country album in history, Ropin' the Wind by Garth Brooks.[15] Some Gave All was also the first debut album to enter at number one on the Billboard Country Albums chart.[16] The album has also sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling debut album of all time for a solo male artist. Some Gave All was also the best-selling album of 1992 in the US with 4,832,000 copies.[17][18] In his career, he has released 35 charted singles, of which 15 charted in the Top 40. From 2001 to 2004, Cyrus starred in the television show Doc. The show was about a country doctor who moved from Montana to New York City. In late 2005, he began to co-star in the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana with his daughter Miley Cyrus."

Agreed. Too much puffery. Other examples: (under The Mercury Record Years) "The album became an instant chart and sales success." (under career relaunch): "As the show began to air, Cyrus was instantly a fan favorite." Frappyjohn (talk) 21:21, 27 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adopted children tagged in infobox

[edit]

He never refers to 2 of his children as adopted, his family never thinks of them differently and use labels son, daughter, brother and sister when referring to them. Legally they are his children. It is somewhat demeaning to them and the relationship to tag them in a way that implies a somewhat lesser relationship. History is covered in article. Tagging them in the infobox implies a somewhat lesser relationship than to his biological children who are not tagged as such. Geraldo Perez (talk) 14:30, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It is a purely emotional argument that the tag implies something negative, and an encyclopedia should be first and foremost about displaying information, not about emotions. The fact of the matter is that those two are not his biological children; they are adopted. Omitting this information from the infobox is highly misleading, especially since an infobox is meant to show precisely these kinds of details. Readers should not be forced to dive into the body of the article in order to scrape up the truth about this matter. —Wash whites separately (talk) 14:47, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Saying that they are adopted and implying it is important is also somewhat emotional and it is demeaning to the people involved to keep bringing up that bit of past history that does not matter in any way to the people involved. Legally adopted means that they are his full children with all the rights and obligations it engenders by law. It is not important to the article to tag his children and their being adopted is not some distinction that matters to this family or to anybody else reading the article. Family history is covered fairly well in the article in the appropriate places. The infobox is not the place for extraneous parenthetical information, it is just an overview of what is important and how his children became his children is not important at all. Geraldo Perez (talk) 15:07, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Saying his children are adopted when they are indeed adopted is not emotional at all; it is a statement of fact. The tag is demeaning only in your opinion; you do not speak for all readers. You also cannot ascertain that all readers are uninterested in how those two became his legal children. The infobox is there to clear that up. Again, omitting information for the sake of emotional sensitivities is very misleading and antithetical to the goal of an encyclopedia. —Wash whites separately (talk) 15:23, 23 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also not just my opinion that it is unimportant for the infobox, but editor consensus up to this point until you changed it. For those who care, the topic is covered quite well in the article body. It is a minor fact about two of his children that is not important enough to highlight in the infobox. It gives WP:UNDUE weight to a minor detail about his life. Wording could be improved in this sentence

[edit]

"His right-handed father played guitar however left-handed Cyrus tried to play his father's guitar, but could not."

That punctuation could be improved. It is not a clearly constructed sentence. I recommend something similar to the following: "His right-handed father played the guitar. Left-handed Billy Ray tried to play his father's guitar, but could not." — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrSethJM (talkcontribs) 14:44, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Name error

[edit]

Feel free to correct me but every source points out a glaring error: Billy Ray Cyrus was born first name "Billy Ray" -- not William. I'll adjust. See, e.g.: The Boot and every other reliable souce that talks "names." DavidWestT (talk) 20:30, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Australia"

[edit]

I find it a bit odd to mention the song's platinum status in Australia of all countries in the second sentence of the article. That seems like something that belongs in the article body or slightly later in the introduction. "Which was an international success" would maybe be enough? 130.208.182.75 (talk) 03:09, 24 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please add awards and nominations for Billy Ray Cyrus in the infobox. There is already an existing article listing his awards and nominations. Can this be linked to his Wikipedia page? 2A00:23C7:4804:E01:59DB:97EF:7318:FFD4 (talk) 23:37, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

His name is Cyrus

[edit]

I can't link because it requires signing in with my library card but it says, "Country singer Cyrus (AKA Billy Ray Cyrus) is 60" in a list of celebrity birthdays.

I don't know where they got this.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:56, 25 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Found it. I didn't see anything when I first searched but I tried a different method. How this didn't make it into the article I don't understand, but there are more sources saying he did than that he didn't. The word must not have gotten out, but it seems the original announcement was a hoax.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:24, 30 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
