Five Nobel Peace Prize nominations????
A nomination for a peace prize is completely irrelevant. Anybody can be nominated for a Nobel peace prize, even Adolf Hitler (http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Nobel_peace_prize#Nominations). I will delete this. Besides the source for this is unreliable(its the webpage of his campaign) (15.235.153.107 (talk) 20:18, 12 January 2008 (UTC))
- What proof do we have that Richardson was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize? The Nobel Foundation rules prohibit disclosures about the nominees.Charney (talk) 20:23, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
can jhe speak spanish?
His parents and grandparents but whether he can speak fluently... not listed or known? Radio Guy (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 18:10, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yes he can, he grew up in Mexico City and there are several videos of him on Youtube speaking the language fluently. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.246.153.217 (talk) 04:04, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

changing sentence in the introduction
old version: His global diplomatic experience is robust
This is just a Wikipedia author's opinion. Somebody else's opinion could be "his experience is awesome" or "he's so stupid that he sticks his head in the sand".
new version: He was involved in several diplomatic efforts as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and afterwards.Spevw (talk) 21:37, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Roughly a third of the introduction paragraph is devoted to his withdrawal as Secretary given a controversy. In introducing an individual, this is somewhat excessive is it not? The paragraph further has little to no mention of his prior international diplomatic activity.
Looks like Horatio Sanz
its obvious that the man looks a lot like Horatio Sanz. Why not have it in the article, or even a whole section on that fact. Pierre DuPaix III (talk) 05:04, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- It's not relevant to the governor or his biography. Besides, he's more of an Oliver Platt than Horatio Sanz. --Blue387 (talk) 06:09, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- Please don't reinsert this unreferenced material into the article, without providing reliable secondary sources to back it up. Darkspots (talk) 09:09, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Taking office as Secy of Com, when?
We shouldn't be saying Jan 20, 2009. Richardson hasn't been comfirmed by the Senate, as Secy of Commerce (yet). GoodDay (talk) 19:09, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
I think it's inappropriate to name him as commerece designate until he is formally announced by the President-elect.Saberwolf116 (talk) 03:26, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
- Since Richardson is still NM Governor & has yet to be confirmed by the Senate as Secy of Comm; we should keep his Governor section in the top part of the Infobox. GoodDay (talk) 20:27, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
New External link added
I have added an external link to this article from Washingtonpost.com which provides further details relating to his career up to his appointment as Secretary of Energy some of which I could not find in the article, any of its internet-based references, or any pre-existing external links. --TommyBoy (talk) 02:12, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
why padlock this?
There is a slightly inaccurate thing that I want to correct. —Preceding unsigned comment added by User 20338 (talk • contribs) 00:27, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Pay to Play Investigation
A federal grand jury in New Mexico was convened to investigate accusations that Gov. Bill Richardson’s administration gave lucrative contracts worth $1.4 million to a California financier, David Rubin, because he contributed heavily to the governor’s political action committees, $25,000 in 2003 and $75,000 in 2004. [1]
Rubin's company, CDR Financial Products Inc., also advised Jefferson County, Alabama, on bond deals that threatened to cause the biggest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. [2]
The federal investigation which began in August 2008 came two years after the FBI searched CDR's offices as part of a nationwide investigation. Gmwcpa (talk) 02:43, 23 December 2008 (UTC)
- Bloomberg reports that CDR made $1.48 million advising the State of New Mexico Finance Authority. [3]Charney (talk) 00:40, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Anyone know when this grand jury for first convened? Did it start in late December or is that when it's existence become publicly known? Seano1 (talk) 22:20, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- It appears the investigation began in August 2008 and the grand jury was convened on Tuesday, December 16, 2008. [4] It also appears that Gov. Richardson did not inform the Obama transition team of his Grand Jury investigation. [5] CNN also reported that two Democratic strategists who are not part of the transition team that Obama aides pushed the withdrawal because they did not want an ethical distraction in light of the controversy surrounding Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. [6] The same article described Richardson as "stunned" when he was told to withdraw. Gmwcpa (talk) 23:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
I have no idea what this means.
In 1967, he pitched in the amateur Cape Cod Baseball League for the Cotuit Kettleers in Cotuit, Massachusetts. A Kettleers program included the words "Drafted by K.C." The information which, according to the investigation, was generally provided by the players or their college coaches. Richardson said:
“ | When I saw that program in 1967, I was convinced I was drafted...And it stayed with me all these years.[1] | ” |
...What? 76.219.170.8 (talk) 13:19, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Yankee?
I find this phrasing odd:
- "His father, William Blaine Richardson Jr. (died in 1972), of New England Yankee and Mexican descent,"
"Yankee" is not a term with a consistent, standardized meaning. My first thought was that it was meant to indicate that he was from the US, but that's described separately. Overall, I'm just curious about the author's choice to use it. It seems sufficient to use the same format as the sentence about Richardson's mother and to say that one parent was from Boston and one parent was from Mexico. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Atherva (talk • contribs) 09:26, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
Atheist or Agnostic?
Not even remotelly Bill Richardson can be seen as Catholic. He is known for his anti-Catholic stances and remarks and for his despise for the Catholic doctrine on controversial issues. There are some evidence that he is in fact a closet atheist or agnostic, who simply used the religion as a badgem since it is not politically correct to be a non religious person in American politics.85.242.238.59 (talk) 02:07, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
The Real Draft Issue With Richardson is the Vietnam Draft, Not Baseball
How did Richardson, who was healthy enough to almost play pro baseball, avoid the draft and Vietnam? Richardson was seeking public service in the presidency, so it is entirely relevant and appropriate to wonder why he wasn't seeking military service during the biggest war of his lifetime.
Questions? Ask them through Wikinews
Hello,
I'm Nick Moreau, an accredited reporter for Wikinews. I'm co-ordinating our 2008 US Presidential election interviews. We will be interviewing as many candidates as possible, from the Democrats, Republicans, and other parties/independents.
I'll be sending out requests for interviews to the major candidates very soon, but I want your input, as people interested in American politics: what should I ask them?
Please go to any of these three pages, and add a question.
- n:Wikinews:Story preparation/US 2008/Democratic Party
- n:Wikinews:Story preparation/US 2008/Republican Party
- n:Wikinews:Story preparation/US 2008/Third Party or Independent
Questions? Don't ask them here, I'll never see them. Either ask them on the talk page of any of these three pages, or e-mail me.
Thanks, Nick
Merge proposal
It has been suggested that Electoral history of Bill Richardson be merged into this article or section. Proposed since June 2011. (Discuss).
- Merging Richardson's Electoral history into this main article would make the article better. Gone south (talk) 18:03, 14 June 2011 (UTC)
- I would strongly oppose doing so. The information is much too vast to be included in the main article, and would make navigating the article harder than necessary. Not sure why this would even be considered. Gage (talk) 04:47, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
- I also oppose the merger, and agree with Gage that the content is too vast to be incorporated into this article. In short, if it ain't broke.......--JayJasper (talk) 05:09, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Cuban mission
Should we mention his mission to Cuba to free jailed US contractor, Alan Gross. Here's the link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/richardson-comes-up-empty-handed-in-effort-to-free-alan-gross/2011/09/11/gIQAurZeKK_story.html?hpid=z4 Inthegarden52 (talk) 20:06, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Sentence mangling
"William Blaine Richardson had descended to the Dominican Republic a family, senior resources at the time Trujillo kingdom which could highlight the Admiral of the Navy Rafael Benjamin Richardson Lightbourne as a relative of the same ."
Somebody, please fix this sentence. It's gobbledygook.-- 24.59.59.92 (talk • contribs) 3:57, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
- I removed both sentences about his grandparents:
- Bill Richardson's grandparents were William Blaine Richardson, of Boston, and Rosaura Ojeda, Mexico. William Blaine Richardson had descended to the Dominican Republic a family, senior resources at the time Trujillo kingdom which could highlight the Admiral of the Navy Rafael Benjamin Richardson Lightbourne as a relative of the same.
- None of this is mentioned in the cited source. This was an anonymous user's sole Wikipedia contribution. -- Pemilligan (talk) 02:30, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Allegations added by Kairotic
Kairotic, please stop reinserting your content without discussing it on the talk page as per WP:BRD, which stands for "Bold, Revert, Discuss". Also, please read WP:BLP:
Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. Users who persistently or egregiously violate this policy may be blocked from editing.
Biographies of living persons ("BLPs") must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives; the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment. This policy applies to any living person mentioned in a BLP, whether or not that person is the subject of the article, and to material about living persons in other articles and on other pages, including talk pages. The burden of evidence rests with the editor who adds or restores the material.
The content you are adding needs to be better sourced. The few sources you have included only mention Richardson once, and you have only just added your first reliable source with the Chicago Tribune. I do not believe that an accusation of a serious crime like that should be based on sources that barely mention Richardson, especially if all the sources are from one particular news day and the allegations are not reported on at any other time. In addition, the header you are adding to the section is not supported by the sources and a clear BLP violation. – Wallyfromdilbert (talk) 01:25, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
