Notability

[edit]

This seems to be a textbook WP:BLP1E. It's a fascinating story, but almost nothing is known of him before or after. I don't think there's a valid redirect target either. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 00:34, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Paging @DanielMichaelPerry:, who created the page in January. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 00:36, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could the current article perhaps be modified to be about the viral video rather than Bill Morgan himself? DanielMichaelPerry (talk) 02:33, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What would you call the article? Aaron Liu (talk) 02:35, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is the difficulty I had when creating the article, which is why I chose to name it after the subject of the video even though the video itself was the main focus of the article. Perhaps something similar like "Bill Morgan lottery win" would be sufficient, or maybe using one of the headlines covering the event like "The luckiest man alive" used by the BBC. DanielMichaelPerry (talk) 02:50, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While I'm still ambivalent on the notability of the video, I'd favor the former since the latter was only used in the BBC headline. Aaron Liu (talk) 12:47, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the former is fine, it's not like we're prohibited from mentioning people's names in the title when covering events, and it seems the easiest way to get something relatively unambiguous, which "luckiest man alive"... isn't really. Alpha3031 (tc) 13:30, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree that this doesn't seem to meet notability, unfortunately. It's a fascinating and heartwarming read, the information is sourced, and it doesn't seem to hurt any reputation. Hopefully we can merge this into some article about the Australian lottery. Aaron Liu (talk) 00:58, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could it be rewritten as an event to meet WP:EVENT? "People known only in connection with one event should generally not have an article written about them. If the event is notable, then an article usually should be written about the event instead." Otherwise, I agree merging it into a lottery article such as Scratchcard. Jimmyjrg (talk) 04:10, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I mean the specific lottery company. Adding this to the article about the format seems undue. Aaron Liu (talk) 11:47, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree Morgan is clearly known only for this event. Is there perhaps some sort of list of lottery-related events that could sustain a merge? – Teratix 14:05, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
