Notability
[edit]Finneran is apparently only notable for the Magee incident so per WP:BLP1E this should probably be a redirect to Sherry Magee.--ukexpat (talk) 19:43, 6 June 2012 (UTC)
- I saw that, then questioned whether it applied because he wasn't a living person. But then I saw the last sentence, which directed me to the sports notability guidelines. Apparently he's presumed notable, irrespective of the Magee incident, due to his MLB umpiring career. When I looked at a Wikipedia list of MLB umpires, he was one of the longest tenured umps without an article. EricEnfermero (talk) 02:15, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- In that case our sports notability guidelines need to be looked at, but that's a discussion for another day. – ukexpat (talk) 13:08, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
- I appreciate you bringing this up when you had doubts. It made me go back and reexamine sources regarding his length of major league service. A Wikipedia list of MLB umpires implied that he was an MLB ump from 1911 to 1923, but much of that time was spent with him in the minors, which I've clarified. It didn't affect notability, but it's a huge distinction that needed to be made. Thank you again! EricEnfermero (talk) 13:53, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
