Newbie Here - Comments from Bill Beagan
[edit]My neighbour Bill Beagan discovered the page a couple of weeks ago and was surprised and concern. After some discussion he was a bit flattered but said there were a few errors, minor for the most part. I asked him to identify the issues and propose the changes. He did so in the text I have pasted below.
As a newbie I am hesitant to make change as these changes aren't supported by anything more than a personal note from Bill Beagan. I offer the following correspondence in hopes that Flibirigit sees it appropriate to make the suggested changes.
As per our recent discussion, the following are my amendments to the Wikipedia page.
I get the current social distancing Jo, but I would like to get ahead with these amendments before someone raises any concerns. If there is any chance you can initiate these amendments soon, it would be appreciated.
First page amendments (Blocked-in Bill Beagan section) “Honours” - After Bill Beagan and before Trophy insert "MVP" so as to read "Bill Beagan MVP Trophy" “Years of Service” - Delete “1953” amend to read 1954 “Awards” After United Nations Emergency Force Medal” - delete “Meritorious Service Decoration” - amend to read “Canadian Forces Decoration (CD)”
First Paragraph Line three. Delete “fourteen” - amend to read “thirteen” Line ten. Delete “1985” - amend to read 1984
Second Paragraph Line ten. delete “Meritorious Service Decoration” - amend to read “Canadian Forces Decoration (CD)” Second page amendments Early life Line seven. After “transferred to” - delete “Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.” - amend to read - “30 NORAD Region Truax AFB, Madison, Wisc” Third page amendments Ontario Major Junior Hockey League Second Paragraph, After “Beagan claimed he resigned” - delete “resigned” and insert “was fired” After “whereas the league stated was fired” - delete “fired” and insert “he resigned” Fourth page amendments Awards and honours First line, after “the United Nations Emergency Force Medal in 1959, the” - delete “Meritorious Service Decoration” and insert “Canadian Forces Decoration (CD)” This was just a cursory study Jo, but I think I have covered was is necessary. Thanks for your help. Bill. Jbossart (talk) 12:32, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you for the inquiry and message. It is possible to make changes, but a verifiable source needs to be provided. Is there anything that could be referenced for the changes, such as a newspaper article or book? Eventually I would like to read a copy of the book. I can revisit the current sources as well. Flibirigit (talk) 12:59, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- I have corrected the OMJHL section. I accidentally inverted the words from the cited source. I will look into the rest soon. Flibirigit (talk) 13:24, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Jbossart:, I have reviewed the changes you made here. I have corrected the link for the Canadian Forces' Decoration, inserted the corresponding post-nominal, and removed the incorrect category. I'm going to assume good faith that the CD is the correct medal since the original source is ambiguous. I have simplified the description of Beagan's service for NORAD to avoid stating any specific location and or base. Available sources here and here do not seem to agree on location, but do agree he worked for NORAD in the US. Lastly, the edit summary you left here may lead editors to perceive that you have a conflict of interest. I suggest reading WP:COI. You are always welcome to ask questions and request edits on this talk page. Flibirigit (talk) 13:23, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
