Note that in spite of having "retired" when he joined Worcs, Athey did in fact play quite a bit of cricket after that. As well as the solitary List A appearance for Worcs in 1999, he also played a number of List A games for Suffolk in the C&G Trophy in 2001 and 2002, and at minor level toured Bangladesh with MCC in 1999-2000.
