In-text citations

[edit]

I'm a copyeditor just here to proofread this article and noticed that there are many in-line citations a la APA. Are these contained within the associated references that are done in the style of Wikipedia? --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬📝) 03:08, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Tenryuu: If you are asking whether the APA style citations and accompanying endnotes refer to the same sources: that seems to me to be the case, with the exception of the (Pienemann et al. 2005) reference in the History section. Thtatithticth (talk) 04:42, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Thtatithticth: Good to know. I'm of the mind that they shouldn't be on here, but I'll leave that to the article's primary editors. --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬📝) 04:47, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The creator hasn't edited the article in almost 7 years; I think removing them should be fine, and might make the article a little more friendly to lay-readers. I'll find a full reference for the Pienemann citation. Thtatithticth (talk) 05:00, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Pienemann reference is misleading. The quote to which it's attached is actually from the endnote before it ("Fernandez, Eva (2011). Fundamentals of Psycholinguistics. Wiley-Blackwell."). In fact, the Pienemann reference should be in the quote. Here's an extract from Fernandez: Second language learners are also able to produce and process simple sentences before complex sentences (Pienemann et al. 2005), just like first language learners. So, rather than changing the Pienemann reference, I would suggest moving it into the quote and citing Fernandez. (Or I'll just do it myself when the article is no longer {{in use}}.) @Thtatithticth: I'll leave you to it then. :) My copyedit for this article is complete and although I have opinions about the tone (it reads very much like the discussion section of a journal paper) I'll keep it as is as rewriting will probably take me a full dedicated 2 hours to parse everything more neutrally. I think the underlinked tag can be removed as there are quite a few links in the article. Cheers! --Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬📝) 16:23, 9 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
