Bizarre citation
[edit]Statement: "Diplomacy and mediating were crucially important measures in pre-modern Bhutan chiefdoms."
Citation: https://web.archive.org/web/20150923221226/http://www.dzongkha.gov.bt/publications/PDF-publications/Drangtsi_Bumpa.pdf (currently online at https://www.dzongkha.gov.bt/uploads/files/publications/A_book_on_ancient_tems_and_their_later_equivalents_b15acc29b2da9f7797a0350e4a4da386.pdf)
On its face, the statement seems plausible. But as far as I can tell, the source is published by the Dzongkha Development Commission and consists of a dictionary of ancient Dzongkha terms into modern Dzongkha, with columns for བརྡ་རྙིང་། brda rnying "ancient term" and for brda gsar བརྡ་གསར། "new term". So maybe there were a lot of words about diplomacy and mediating or something, and that is supposed to be the citation? Sounds kind of like the claim that there are many Eskimo words for snow, because snow is important to their culture; maybe there's a correlation but it doesn't seem like an ideal citation.
Or maybe the citation is to the preface or ending, the only parts of the document that aren't tables of words and definitions. I can't tell what they say; for all I know they might mention diplomacy in pre-modern Bhutan chiefdoms. Do we have anyone who can read Dzongkha? 98.170.164.88 (talk) 08:45, 9 September 2023 (UTC)

On the topic of the audio file
[edit]The original audio file has been recognized by Wikipedia* and got silently removed somewhere around late 2015 or early 2016 and replaced in mid-2016, I think (not sure) that one of the talk pages talked about it being racist. Bhutanese people do not speak like this, this is not a stereotype. This is someone goofing off on Garageband using filters. However, I believe that the new file and the old should be able to coexist since of the original audio file's infamy and reputation, and because it's silly too, come on. Don't be a "Debbie Downer"**

- Excuse me for my juvenile language. I know you people merely scoff at Charlie Chaplin and sometimes you think of perambulating right over to Comedy Central and hand them a multi-page essay about why humor is a HOPELESS endeavor, and the Television Shows and Specials do not speak of true non-fiction such as the Dictionary... But instead EVEN. MORE. HUMOR.
