The relation between Naude and Verwoerd at Stellenbosch needs clarification and citation. As it stands, it can be read that Verwoerd influenced Naude; and that Verwoerd taught theology at Stellenbosch (unlikely, as Verwoerd's PhD was in psychology). At the University of Stellenbosch, Verwoerd at one point chaired the social work department, which later divided into the separate departments of sociology and social work (see Science and Society in the Early Career of H. F. Verwoerd by Roberta Balstad Miller, Journal of Southern African Studies, Vol. 19, No. 4 (Dec., 1993), pp. 634-661.DocDee (talk)

Uncle versus Mister

[edit]

Naudé was commonly referred to as "Oom Bey", true, but although the form of address "oom" literally means "uncle" it is used for any male person not related to oneself, and I suspect the translation of it should be "mister", not "uncle". So, Mister Bey. Or perhaps mister is not correct, but uncle certainly is not either. -- leuce (talk) 12:23, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I did read the phrase "Oom Bey" in the press once. But to say that he commonly was referred to as such is absurd nonsense. There is also publications that refer to him as a liar, cheat, fool, false prophet. Does that now mean that he was "commonly" referred to as such? I don't think that's contingent! --41.144.62.198 (talk) 20:18, 2 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Libel case correction

[edit]

Dr Beyers Naudé, prof A.S. Geyser and prof A. Van Selms sued prof Adrianus Drost Pont in 1967, not A.P. Punt 197.169.16.199 (talk) 10:39, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Did Prof Pont ever get his money back? --41.151.27.110 (talk) 00:43, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sharpeville

[edit]

"The Sharpeville massacre in 1960 (during which the South African police killed 69 black demonstrators protesting against restrictions on their freedom of movement)" Actually the protesters were crushing through closed gate (and were subsequently shot at). --41.151.105.56 (talk) 18:57, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
